He has evolved into runs a Pro - Spread Offense, has ties to O, and may want to get back in the SEC and get a big raise. Secondly, look at the shiny objects that didn't work out for SC -- Kiffen, Sark, and they went with Helton who is similar to O as an inside guy who earned the job, and SC has turned it around, and are a tough team.

Nope, not happening. He's happy here and we'll match whatever you want to offer.

USC will never pony up the money to match. Make it happen.

A lot of guys on hear want the "spread option" solution. I am not sold on it since damn near everyone runs a derivative of it. To beat top 10 college football teams and talent -- do what the successful pro's do like New England, Denver, Seattle, Green Bay, and Steelers do --- get the ball into playmakers. In College, athletic QB's can run more, but I am not an advocate of Urban or Herman's run the QB a lot to get them hurt.

We keep wanting spread everything offenses with running QB/s like Meyer and Herman runs. I don't like this. The pro-spread that the Patriots use is the model that we should pursue. There is a reason that the pros don't run Urban and Herman's offenses -- QBs get killed, and pro-defenses can figure them out. However, I do find Briles Baylor vertical spread intriguing.

How many of those do we have on the schedule next year?

I agree 100%. A good defense needs a ball controlled offense that can spread the field to get the ball in the playmakers hands. I don't like a QB running. Let him manage the game. If T Martin can do that, I like it. I know Kiffin and Sark can. For Aranda to be successful full, he can't be on the field too much. Quick scores leads to higher scoring games, putting the defense on the field too long.

The problem is with Air Raid or Briles' tempo the defense gets smacked around. Check out the defensive statistics for those type offenses.

Then check the defensive stats for Herman/Urban/Peterson "Pro-spread".. they are solid. You can run a "pro spread" offense of the type Kiffin, for example, is running and have ball control, efficiency, and an effective option at QB should you need (or play breaks down).

That is what O wants. A true spread or tempo spread like Briles will hurt as much as it helps.

We should hire from the Petrino or Peterson tree.

I'm on board with this. Plus he can recruit with the best of them.

Well O did say this is what he wanted. And USC does not run a lot of Option. Its mostly a West Coast out of he Pistol and Gun.

Martin has come a long way this year, but the stink from that Bama game still isn't gone for me. He didn't look like a guy that could give a Saban defense enough to think about. Being that this same problem has been such an issue for our OCs for the last 5 years, why not look for a guy who has shown a little more than Martin has, so far.

I'm not sure he even calls the plays. Helton is the passing game coordinator and he is the one with the pedigree (and play chart).
