You have to imagine they go after Gary Patterson or a proven head coach.

Why not Art Briles? Guy has won everywhere he's been and is doing good things at Baylor. Baylor!

it's like some people don't know anything about college football at all. Mack leaves when he wants to, and when he does, he will become the AD.

I don't think that happens anymore in this day and age. If he wins 8 games a year for the next 3 or 4 years it will get hot there just like everywhere else. No one rides out good coaches any more, they turn them over. But Mack has survived this long and has usually good assistants around him, he has proven himself in making the good hires so I don't doubt him to do it again.

Mack turned around the program, gets any recruit from Texas he wants and more importantly he brings in the $$$.
He'll coach for four to five years and then retire and become the AD. He'd have to miss bowl games for the next three years to be fired.

Just in my mind based on many factors the guys I think they would go after in no particular order would be:
Chris Peterson
Gary Patterson
Gene Chizik
Bobby Petrino
Art Briles
Jim Harbaugh
Mike Leach

I disagree with you only for the reason of knowing how the Texas fan base is & can be. They have
ZERO (0) patience and another tough season next year and Mack could be on the chop block & it wouldn't surprise me one bit. It's 2010 and the state that we are in this country when it comes to intercollegiate athletics involving political power, money, etc anything can happen & happen quickly with a blink of an eye.

I cant believe in Todays age of ridiculously high paid college coaches that anyone really believes any coach (save Paterno) gets to write his own ticket.
Those days are gone.

I say Butch Davis. Worked pretty good last time they tried it. (Going to UNC that is)

texas will not can mack, next year or any other year. they may convince him to retire with honor, but they won't ever fire him.
