Searles to Texas - likely

reported late yesterday afternoon, and on the drive in this morning
they are expecting a press release later today announcing Searles as new OLcoach to UT
I remember he was pretty highly thought of while at LSU, but weren't his last couple of years at UGA somewhat substandard for O-line play?

He did a good job at lsu. His o-lines at georgia were plagued by injuries. good hire, better than stud, imo

I'm not a huge Stud fan, but he is gonna surprise y'all over the next few years. The OL had alot of attrition the first few years he was here. That is gone and now he is doing a great job of developing. In addition, he is only going to have to develop one blocking scheme, vs the multiple schemes crowton had.

Good hire on their part IMO. Searles was always good at LSU. It seems that UGA's offensive lines have always had some sort of "youth" or "injury" problems over the past 10 years.
As for Stud, the line was better this year and besides our OTs, the rest of the line was very very young. And I think the major problem was the offensive scheme, or lack thereof. Were we an option blocking line, a power running line, a spread pass line, a spread option line? I think the line will be improved again this year and impress people. Especially if Blackwell comes back healthy.

Texas has made some good hires.
I don't know what happened at Georgia but he is an excellent OL coach and I would love to have him back. It's too bad Miles and Stud are joined at the hip.

Most Texas fans are disappointed, including me. I genuinely don't know that much about Searles but the fact that we are settling for our 5th choice worries me.

How often do you hear a fan base (especially LSU) talk good about a former coach? Mack did good with this one.

he's pretty good, usually took a few games to get our OL going or settle on his rotation though.
I don't think the UGA ppl are all that sorry to see him go though.

This. It always seemed like the first three games were just bad, then they would settle down and do really well after that.
I really don't know what is going on at UGA. Ever since 2000 they always talk about how their offensive line is young. Well at some point they aren't young anymore. I know in 2007-2009 or somewhere around there they had a lot of injuries too. UGA always seems to have one good offensive lineman and a new rotation of freshman and sophmores every year.

He's a fine OL coach...you should be happy. It's not like ya'll were gonna hit the jackpot with an OL coach...I mean it is just an OL coach. It's important but not nearly as important as a HC or coordinator. He'll be fine for ya'll.

There was always a group of slapdicks who could never think of anything original to say about him and would just all make the same criticisms, similar to the one SunTiger made.

by and large I think they had consistency on the OL from last yr to this one. biggest difference was that Sturdivant, who's probably their most talented guy, was able to play this yr after missing the last 2 with knee injuries, so you think they'd have been stronger. never really materialized.
there was some griping about Searles, but seems like most of the fingers have been pointed at their S&C program (and Richt's personality). ppl don't seem to think that their big nasties (on both lines) are big or nasty enough.
