This is ridiculous. Saban would dictate what exactly his responsibilities for that network are, and the tu contract would explicitly say that.

As has already been explained, 1% of Texas' share of the LHN is something like 300k a year. Nick spends more than that on oatmeal cookies.

Texas will keep Mack Brown on payroll to act as the inside liaison to the LHN, reducing the load on Saban.

If there is any chance that Brown would still be around in any capacity that would be a deal breaker. Saban would not stand for that.

That grumpy MF hates the media and I don't blame him. Too big an obstacle for Texass and they can't do anything about it.

Yeah, I see your point.

The other day I turned on the TV on Saturday morning looking for Gameday, and stumbled upon Chris, Lee, and Kirk trying to get in a word edgewise during the Nick Saban Show.

He really looked uncomfortable. Probably was the Gameday crew eating out of his hands that made him look that way.

You know, I guess you are right. It is kind of ridiculous. A company like ESPN and a University like Texass would let a coach like Saban dictate what he will or will not do on a $300 million dollar 20 yr television deal that was signed 3+ years ago.

Yes, makes absolute sense. Good god.

His presence in any way, shape, or form is the only thing that might save the network.

Hell, the conference as a whole needs help marketing itself, before it implodes. Don't think there isn't other big players amongst the Big 12 like T. Boone hoping this gets worked out some way.

Said this all along, Saban isn't a good fit in Texas with the shite they've got going on. Too many egos clashing.

Dude stfu, if he hates the media that much, why is he gonna be on the BCS broadcast for the big game? Saban loves the attention.

It absolutely does... the network could exist without any exclusive content from him at all. Why in the world would they be in a position to dictate anything about what he's supposed to do? That's absurd.

Exactly why I think it won't happen. At Bama he is the dictator, at UTx he would have plenty of ppl to answer to.

bullshite, LHN has already said many times that they will take less of whoever is the new coaches time. Mack was on about 4 hours a week. Saban would be on 1 or 2 so not that much different then his schedule now. The only change would be LHN airing some of the practices. I have been to practices and they stay out if the way.

If Saban does not come Franklin would be a good coach. Much rather him then somebody like Bilemma who was talked about earlier this week.

Meh, Saban doesn't really hate the media per se. He just wants to be in control of what's reported. LHN would be right up his alley actually.

Idgaf about the LHN. I'm talking about plenty of people more powerful than him on the same campus. The President of the University, the AD, and even the Governor all at his doorstep. Austin has far more people, and far more opposing viewpoints than Tuscaloosa where everyone worships Bama 24/7.

While kinda true because there are powerful people in Texas.

Saban however would demand respect as soon as he came on campus and would get it. I might even argue that Texas head coach is more powerful in public perception (not actual power) then any university president or governor.

Perry on his way out and is an aggie so not much to do with the program at all except appointing board of regents.

DeLoss Dodds was by far more powerful than Mack Brown. He was the reason Mack Brown remained coach after last season, and why Rick Barnes is still the basketball coach. The whole Texas Athletic Department has lots of power, #1 in profit. They have a top track program, baseball program, football, and their basketball programs have all the potential to be a top 15 program. I'd say when its all working the AD will trump Nick Saban…easily, and Texas is a very large group of people that aren't near as easy to manipulate and win over on the level that the Bama fan base has been won over. Like I said, Austin is a much larger animal than Tuscaloosa.

While I agree with you some, there is now a power vacuum at Texas and if Saban entered he would fill it.

Dodds is on the way out. New ad Patterson won't have the same type of power. University prez Powers almost lost his job today but pulled it out. Barnes is on his way out also if he does not fix the bb program. The bb program and new arena to be built will be Patterson baby. Garrido also needs some winning season or he is on the way out as bball coach.

Patterson is also known for cleaning house so everybody in athletic department is on pins and needles now.

So like I said, there is and will be a power vacuum open within the ut athletics coming up and so ny football coach with a big personality or persona will take whatever power he needs.

Time will tell either way. Glad I don't have to wait and see for my school.
