This was commonly known for the past three months.
Ash and the AD share an agent. The agent snuck a provision in the contract that gave Ash an automatic raise and an extension, fully guaranteed, if Rutgers got sanctioned in any way.
Rutgers got sanctioned for Kyle Flood's merry misadventures.
So, Rutgers is stuck with Ash for another year.

Chris Ash is a solid coach in an extremely weak program. A lot of Big 10 people think he'll get 4 or 5 more years.
They're in the B1G East - so Mich ST, Ohio St. Penn St. Michigan and some other improved programs. If Ash can get them bowl eligible in 3 more seasons, most sane boosters will be thrilled.
Sure, Schiano did great things back in the day, but NOT playing out of the Big 10 - East Division.
