Riley is a better fit at USC

Letting the shock subside and thinking about it rationally, Riley is a damn good coach but isn’t built for the SEC. USC is a great place for him. He will recruit his arse off, murder the easy PAC schedule, and have USC in playoff contention every year, but he doesn’t have the “it” to get over the hump to defeat the better teams of the world.
He’s a great coach and I would’ve loved to have him, but his Oklahoma teams never quite made it to the promise land despite destroying their conference opponents every year and I see the same happening at USC. They will be thrilled with being in the hunt every year after a decade of mediocrity, even if they will routinely come up short of a championship. LSU wouldn’t accept it after more than a couple of years.

Can he actually build a program, though? USC is gonna take some work.

Between USC’s name, the talent within a few hundred miles of USC, and Riley’s success at drawing recruits to Norman, OK, his ability to recruit stars to USC shouldn’t be a concern in my opinion.

Wonder what kind of assurances they gave him regarding facilities.
