my opinion doesnt matter anyways. i was thrilled to get chavis. i was thrilled to have anyone besides crowton. maybe shannon recaptures his broyles award form from 2001. i just think he'll be average and get run out of town and yall will be looking for the next guy to transform the D.

This may have been Arkansas' best all around defense personnel wise in their SEC History

Same logic you're using to discredit Shannon, essentially.
Our previous DC as horrible. Pathetic. He was a last second replacement that somehow leached onto the program for 4 years. I'll GLADLY take a big name coach like Shannon (recruiting) who has years of experience as a DC.

Kragthorpe's offense was turrible. He took a Heisman Candidate QB, 1st round draft pick lock, and ruined him in one season.

They weren't that bad, I assume he had a DC while he was Head Coach. Being a HC, you don't get to spend the entire time with your group.
Look at Gene Chizik, was a great DC, but his defenses as HC are awful. You don't just forget how to coach defenses. He was also a VERY good recruiter, which we need. Willy Robinson couldn't recruit worth a shite unless it was JUCO.

If the Shannon thing falls through, we at least get Vic Koenning, who has fielded four top 10 defenses and 6 top 20 defenses in 9 years as DC.
