Question about the media?

All we ever hear about is "my sources" this and "my sources" that, and probably 80% of it ends up being garbage (probably being generous). It makes me wonder if for most media, it's more important to report WHATEVER you hear as soon as you hear it and risk it being wrong to avoid being the last to report a story when it actually turns out to be true? I would think that would be an absolute career killer to be the last one on the scene for a story. That's why we get so much garbage "fact" reporting. Doesn't say much for integrity.......play the lottery as much as you can and strike gold now and then. But that just seems to be the norm.

Any future reporters or journalists have any thoughts on this?
