Why is everyone now bringing race into the head coaching searches. A&M wants a guy, hires him but its frowned upon because they didn't interview a black canidate first. Ok, how about they ask the coach from ucla to fly a thousand miles just so they can appease people by interviewing him becuase of his color. I just don't get this. Now if there were 99 canidates who were black and the 1 white canidate got the job then fine, scream all you want but I am sick of hearing about this. Why can't it just be about hiring the best guy for the job and move on. Now they are condemning FSU for naming fisher bowden's sucessor. What the shite did you think was the plan when he made a lateral move there from lsu. Idiots!

I agree.

Are token interviews really a step forward for aspiring black head coaches?

If a team wants a specific guy and is able to go out and get that guy, save the dog and pony show for another day.

I don't see a problem with interveiwing a minority coach if you are not sure who you are going to hire. What bothers me is when a team already knows who the will hire and just do it to appease the black coaches assoc.
A school should hire whomever they want.

I don't think schools should necessarily be forced to interview anyone of any particular race, but they should maybe interview a few people at least. Just hiring someone as a kneejerk reaction seems like bad business to me, but then again, it's their choice.
