They absolutely did.
In 5 season at Michigan State, Nick Saban finished 5th, 5th, 6th, 6th and Tied for 2nd in the Big 10.
In 4 seasons at Oklahoma State, Les Miles finished 5th, 3rd, 3rd and 5th in the Big 12.
Neither of those hires we the best coach available but they both delivered national championships to LSU. Go figure.

If anyone thinks LSU has near the financial resources of TA&M, they are insane. No way LSU can compete with A&M money. Even if he doesn't work out, the buyout at 5 years for JF is pocket change for A&M.

Even at four years it’s only $40 million. Arky just paid almost $12 million for fricking Bret. Jimbo is worth it.
