The NFL playoffs. Jacksonville is 8-3 and playing well. They just got their QB starter back and will probably peak down the stretch.

We can't wait that long.

yes we can. Hire me to recruit. I'll go tell the 5 stars, you see that guy on tv coaching those NFL players in the playoffs........that is going to be your coach. I'll set the freaking rivals record.

Can I help? I definitely sell anyone on LSU!

But seriously, the Jags got a shot at the AFC championship game.

Who says we have to wait?

He can accept the job, set up a staff(or shell of a staff), let them recruit, make a few calls to recruits at night and tell them as soon as his season is over he is on the first plane to visit them, and finish out the season with the Jags.

Or the Jags can say thanks for your service and appoint an interim.

excellent point. I that's something that has kept several successful NFL OCs and DCs from taking other jobs in the past. I remember hearing lots of NFL teams were interested in Crennel and Weiss, just to name two, but thought it too risky to wait that long.

Another problem with waiting til January to hire a coach is that it makes it a lot tougher to fill out your coaching staff with quality guys.

Yep. I mean, if he wants the job, why would he give a shite how the Jags want to handle it? If they want him to coach out the rest of the season, no problem. If not, that's good too.

You would have to get permission from the Jags to atlk to him. They wouldnot do that until after the playoffs if Jacksonville made them. Do you really wantto wait until January to hire a coach who has zero experience recruiting high school players? Seems to me if you hire Del Rio, you are blowing off the recruiting class.

Some of y'all don't follow recruiting very closely. Being an NFL coach recruits itself.

Agree, look at Callahan and Carroll, both overrated NFL coaches IMO but had no problem at all recruiting.

only if you're another NFL team. Universities don't have to ask permission. If it's done it's only as a courtesy.
