When the AD writes a letter like this to the fans while the program is in the midst of its worst season in over 60 years, its a good bet that the AD and his shite coach selection are about as good as gone.

I love how he calls Nebraska a "rebuilding job" this was never a rebuilding job, all we needed was a competent coach to get this team over the hump.

He hasn't been fired yet, but with a letter like that he knows the axe is being sharpened.

Why in the heck did they hire Riley in the first place? His record was so-so even for a program like Oregon State, and you can't fire a guy for not getting over the 9-4 hump and replace him with a guy whose career record is 10 games over .500.

Of all the hires this past offseason, his was probably the most perplexing.

I have to think they were so desperate to find a personality that was a 180 from Bo, they brushed right past his coaching style and record.

I remember when Riley was hired I had the radio on and they were comparing him to Rich Kotite when the NY Jets hired him, so far that assertion seems correct in that they were both nice guys and all but shitty coaches all around.

I've visited Lincoln twice and Nebraska fans are some of the nicest fans I've ever encountered.

That being said, these same fans operate under the belief that they should be the quality program they once were in the mid-1990's at the snap of a finger.

Times have changed, Nebraska is stuck in the B1G West, no longer have a competitive footprint into Texas (with the emergence of Baylor, TCU, and A&M) or NoCal (with the emergence of Oregon), and are not in a talent-rich state to compensate.

No recruits were alive the last time Nebraska won a National Championship. Most were still in diapers or just learned to walk the last time they won a conference championship. There has been no turnaround of Nebraska since it found itself as just another program that hovers around the Top-25.

I have serious doubts that Nebraska ever finds its way back into the thick of things like other proud programs have. Personally think Nebraska fans need to temper expectations.

Leaving the big 12 seems to have hurt their national recruiting more than anything else. They used to cherry pick from CA, TX and even came to LA for a few.
Losing those matchups with OU and Texas have hurt their brand.

NU couldn't put up with TexASS and their never ending shitstorm of drama. That's why they went to the Big 10. If UT wasn't as insufferable as they were they'd still be in the Big 12

It is simple to know why he hired Riley if you know the details. I will keep it short and just highlight the bigger things since all of the details will just get lengthy an dnobody wants to read a novel.

1) SE was trained by Barry at Wiscosnin, who is the Wisconsin AD.

2) When SE was at South Carolina, he tried to get South Carolina to hire Mike Riley instead of Steve Spurrier.

3) SE got the job the AD job at Miami because the school President (or was it the Chancellor ?) is the person that hired Barry at Wisconsin to be the head coach way back 25 years ago. So you can see the connection that got SE's career rolling in the AD world.

4) Barry, the Wisconsin AD, wanted to hire Mike Riley in 2012, but Riley cancelled the interview.

5) Before the Nebraska vs Wiscosnin game last season, SE and Barry had a meeting for how to handle the firing of Bo.

6) SE fired Bo. Reached out to Bret (arky head coach) camp and they said no and reocmmended to reach out to Paul Chryst. Paul said not interested. SE went to Coach Riley and offered him a job.

This hire was done in a matter of a couple of days. It was a total disrespect to the entire state of Nebraska, all of the fans, all of the players and former players, etc.

This hire will lead to SE getting fired. SE better hope that he can run off to Wisconsin before he gets the pink slip.

Coaches such as the Miss. State head coach, the Utah head caoch, and some others wanted the Nebraska job when Bo got fired.

Whittingham would have taken the job immediately if offered. He wanted the job.
