Petrino will be back and that it will cost around 6 million for him to go anywhere...

that is why he is gonna be here at least another 5 years. It is a mutual buyout meaning it costs us 6 million to break it as it does him. It is a pure commitment contract..

We lose a couple of significant starters and still have MAJOR unanswered questions at QB, OC and our OL.

Not sure we are going into next year being seen as some dominating team.

LSU BCS titles, how legitimate are they? I mean really.

More legitimate than yours. But then being from Arkansas you know all about illegitimacy don't ya?

When has LSU ever rolled?

Well lets discuss the last 10 year run shall we?

When was the last time Arkansas did any of the following?

100 wins in 10 seasons?
4 BCS victories (blow outs!)
2 MNC
2 SEC titles
3 SECGG Appearances
8 bowl victories
Had at least 1 1st round draft pic 8 years in a row
Have over 40 players in the NFL
Had the #1 player taken in the draft?
Had 2 coaches recieve "coach of the year?"
Had 4 players taken in the 1st round of one draft?
Had 7 top 10 recruiting classes?
Had 3 #1 recruiting classes?
Had 4 top 5 recruiting classes?
Spend 65 million on football facilities?
Been on National TV at least 5 times a year 7 years in row?

WE have been on a roll, you just can see past your little victories over LSU 3 out of 4...

and for those saying this was done to quiet rumors to UF... the contract has been in the works for weeks now and probably much longer. it was first announced - with the same terms that are currently rumored (e.g. 3.5-ish a year with a 6MM mutual buyout) - a good 5 or more days before Meyer resigned. apparently the hold-up was BP securing raises for his assistants

You think Meyer stepping down wasn't decided "weeks" ago?

i could find the tweet with the contract terms from long before Meyers resigned if you want to see it.

Ed: But I can always count on an LSU fan to arrogantly try to remind lil ol' Arkysaw of who we really are

I think Urban came back to help Uf secure the right coach this year...this has been in the works for a good while

Whether Petrino was approached, we will never know.

What was Petrino's original contract? How many years does or did he have left on his original contract? Why extend it if you aren't worried about losing your coach?

answering one by one:

1) 6 yrs, 2.8MM w/ $6MM buyout that decreased year to year

2) 3 yrs left

3) because
a) 3 yrs isn't very long in coaching terms - nobody waits until the final year to draft a new K,
b) he made a BCS bowl, so renegotiate to meet market rate for a successful coach in this conference (currently 5th ranked pay in SEC, only $200k above Nutt), and
c) Petrino wanted raises for his assistants so he can keep the staff intact.

and because it needs to be stated again: as has been reported from the beginning, Petrino is the one who REQUESTED a larger buyout. Now it'll be $6MM flat, no decrease yearly. Petrino wants to send the message that he'll be at Arkansas for years to come.
