yea, petrino was an offense wizard but he never won the sec. i don't remember him even going to atlanta and his prospects of makeing the seccg were really not good at all. hiring the whisky coach sounds like a pretty good idea to me; the guy is a proven winner and his philosopy is the one that win's championships. the flag football stuff hasn't won one yet. if he can hire some recruiters and emphasize defense, i think he'll have a better chance of getting over the hump than petrino. sure, arky fans loved petrino; he got them a 10 win season and beat LSU a coupla times but i think that was as good as it was gonna get. personally, i think arky will have a hell of a lot better chance to beat bama than they did with petrino.

Arkansas was 10-2 two years in a row and went to their first BCS game, I think he was getting it done pretty well frankly

I hated playing them

Looks like the SEC is about to get much tougher

What exactly does this mean? Spread offense? If so, you are way off base.

Petrino WAS getting it done.

wow, your expectations of arky isn't very high. he lost his only BCS game and was the only SEC team to lose to ohio state in the BCS era. and his 10-2 yrs always including getting blown out by alabama. like i said, he got to the hump he just couldn't get over it. i would think the arkansas fans aspire to win the SEC sometimes and to actually beat a Big 10 team that the big 6 beat on a regualar basis.

they're just not a powerhouse and will not get back to where Petrino had them with Bielema

You are delusional and are acting like Petrino is Frank Beamer. He was only there 4 seasons and improved every season. Given another couple seasons there is no telling what he could have done. Bielema is 0-2 in BCS bowls and 2-4 in bowls overall so I'm not quite following your logic. Bielema has also lost to Ohio State 5 times since 2006.

i may be crazy but i know something about football and i know something about winning. going 10-2 and getting beat by ohio state should not be the goal. hell, half the LSU fans think 10-2 and losing narrowly to alabama is armaggedon. my point is petrino could elevate a post nutt arky to 10 wins and have a "real pretty" offense but he did not win championships. he was not an elite coach and bielema (?) may not be either, but he might be. at least he loves the type of football that does indeed win championships; arse kicking defense and power running.

It's pretty tough to win this conference if you haven't noticed. What he did in 4 years was incredible.

Has led to 1 win out of 6 appearances agains against Ohio State for him.

Apparently, we offered him more money and he turned it down, settling for 3.2 mil/year with a larger budget to be used for assistant salaries.

We shall see.

LSU fans are spoiled idiots...fact

What coach could come into the West right now and have an SEC championship in 4 years?

I'll give you this. Looks like Arky is going with the LSU/Bama style.

But Bielema went 7-5 in a down here in the Big 10

i have no expectations for the piggies. they can come in last every year and that would suit me fine. i thought i was clear when i said their expectations.

there seems to be a contingent of college football fans that equate exciting offenses that gain lots of yardage with great coaching and success. i guess i'm old school, i equate winning football games and championships with success. the pure spread has been proven to not work against the best defenses. look at west virginia. yea, they win games in the big east but they don't win championships. all teams have some spread offense in their arsenal, incl LSU. they all have some option plays they run also.

Say what you want, but the spread has had tremendous success in the SEC/against SEC teams. It's the best way for inferior talent to compete with LSU/Bama.

your definition of tremendous success differs from mine. my definition is winning the sec.

it is difficult discussing the spread offense because there are many variations of it. the houston oilers ran the "run and shoot" decades ago. that was the spread. they won no championships but were damn exciting to watch. all teams run the spread to some extent so the "spread" has taken on a life of it's own. texas a&m runs the spread but the only difference in their spread and lsu's is fjjf can run the football. and most of his runs are on busted plays where gino smith's are designed runs. LSU beat west virginia and oregon last year and both of those teams, esp west virginia gained an enormous amount of yardage but failed. that's right, against a damn good defense, they failed.

Versions of the spread have won the sec 3 times in the past six years.

You think Arkansas is going to go out and pound it on the ground in the West?!?!

GTFOH they are giving up on a tremendous recruiting advantage by going away from the spread. The only appeal about going to Arkansas is playing in a spread. It's also the most effective way for them to run the ball.

A&M, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Ole Miss and Mississippi State have all had varying levels of success running variations of the spread offense in the SEC.
