Our fanbase has been saying for years the LSU job was one of the best in the country and coaches would be lining up to get it.

Most in the media had LSU as a top 5 or at worst top 10 job. Stop acting like this is against LSU. Our administration screwed this up, plain and simple.
You, like the "insiders", know nothing about who wanted to come here, who would come here, etc. Alleva had months to search and get this right. Only time will tell if he did.

No, we can tell right now he didn't get this right. If his goal was to hire the best coach LSU could get to win them championships, how can that possibly be Coach O? Yet, it is clear that is who Alleva targeted, otherwise he would not have given up the search and negotiations in LESS THAN ONE WEEK.
It's clear that LSU is not committed to maintaining an elite program. They could have had Fisher, Herman, Fleck or even a pro coach that could have given them shot.
If we are going to be honest, we're hoping Coach O can maintain our string of 8 or 9 win seasons.
