Boren's public comments on Sept. 14 that expansion is "not a sure thing" are perceived around the league as the manifestation of his reversal on the issue. They also reinforced the notion that Boren's inability to resist commenting publicly is further damaging the league. Boren has now gone full flip-flop from his "psychologically disadvantaged" comments 18 months ago, and it has drummed up a distinct wave of anger around the league.

quote:

Fittingly, it appears Boren's damaging comments to the Big 12 came in part because he has trouble in his own backyard. Oklahoma's Board of Regents is not in favor of Big 12 expansion, and it appears to be putting an increasing amount of pressure on Boren to convey that message. This could seriously gum up the league's expansion plans.

quote:

Houston is in the odd position where many schools in the Big 12 don't really want to add it but are increasingly realizing they probably need to. The issue with Houston is that smaller schools around the league are worried about enabling the Cougars, essentially propping them up at the expense of their own programs. (Why would a recruit from the Houston area go all the way to Texas Tech if he could play in the Big 12 in his home city?) This is a problem that appears more prominent on the coach and athletic director level than the presidential level.

Is Herman really going to stick around for potentially years waiting on Big 12 powers that be to get on same page? I highly doubt it.

Herman depends on how the Charlie Strong year goes.

LSU needs to be pulling for Texas and USC. Probably Texas more than anything.

I think Charlie likely is going to end up having a nice 9-3, 10-2 type season though.

I would think it is more likely that the name programs in the big 12 leave for the PAC, Big 10 or SEC rather than them having smaller programs, like Houston, get a seat at the table.

I don't think Houston to the Big 12 is a reality.

OU has gotten hurt by A&M to the SEC and rise of TCU and Baylor with regards to recruiting. They'd be insane to be for this.

Boren should be going all in to join the SEC. And I would welcome I'd get an LSU game 2 miles from my house every 2 years.

Exactly right. The Texas defense needs to turn it around quickly and get it going.

Luckily for us the Big 12 is horrible this year. Texas isn't going to lose many more games.

The problem is the Big 12 GOR still has a lot of time left and in that time the current Big 12 programs are falling behind nationally on income. Only by expanding (and then punking those expansion teams by keeping a lot of their prorated money) can current Big 12 teams not named Texas catch up to the B1G or SEC on money.

Given how badly UT wants a campus in Houston I think it is an eventuality. Boren didn't get what he wanted in expansion last time either, he is the wallflower.

I'm the opposite, I think UT is going to struggle this year. That win over ND doesn't appear to be anything special now. If they lose to OSU this weekend, watch out.

I hear you, but if they beat OSU they have OU and TCU at home in toss up games and there really isn't another team that could beat them except maybe Baylor, but they have them at home too. I see them maybe dropping 2 more games.

Honestly, I don't think it would even matter. LSU is still the better job. This would just really cement his leaving (if not for us then another school).

That defense thou... Each one of those teams will score points on Charlies soft D that he was or was not involved in but he is for sure involved in now. (dude was hired because of his defensive chops)

If it looks like Herman is considering LSU, Texas tards will start getting nervous. They want Herman bad. Charlie hasn't really endeared himself to the boosters and I'm not sure 8 or 9 wins would save his job if it looks like getting Herman is a now or never deal.

OU will be in the sec or pac 12 when the current deal is up
I bet they say screw Big 12, we are out
They don't need Texas or OSU

Texas will likely go to PAC 12 or independent like Irish
