All this “white whale” talk that’s been going on for weeks…

I would consider the return of Saban to be the greatest coup in the history of coaching hires (despite his age - 70). But that doesn’t in anyway seem realistic. He’s clearly Tier 1, by his lonesome.

IMO Tier 2 would be a very very short list. I don’t know who’s all on it, but I would personally have Lincoln Riley on that list easily. He’s my top level hire even though I never considered it as a realistic possibility before all the rumors started circulating this week. I don’t care about his non-SEC record. The vast majority of all these alleged real candidates aren’t coming from SEC. Lincoln Riley has a clear proven identity and could lock down our offense and QB’s for years to come. I mean shite, he has back-to-back Heismans and even took a tossed-aside Jalen Hurts to the Heisman ceremony sitting next to Burrow. Lincoln Riley would a phenomenal reach who I think could do wonders and win BIG time at LSU. We could still amass defensive talent and find a solid DC to run things. But at least we know our offense and QB production and recruiting are there and will be locked down.

(We wanted him to lose this week so he could be more quickly attainable and available for early signing day. And that just happened!!!!!)

Tier 2 or 3…. I love Aranda. I would happily take him back. I love his demeanor. I love his defenses. Solid AF guy and coach. He’s probably my number 3 of all and earned extra bonus points today.

I personally don’t even want to entertain Jimbo or Dabo or any of these other guys unless we have to.
Franklin and Tucker… NO.
Fickell… pfffffft hell NO.
Napier… tbh, he could probably be really really good and successful with us, but I’d sadly list him as a backup at this point.

TL;DR… riding with Riley

Riley = da guy. If we can't pull him, then throw the same money at Aranda. If not either of them then I sure hope to god the Rhule smoke is legitimate. It goes downhill from there.

Wait. You’d take Aranda over Dabo? You can no longer be taken seriously on this topic.

Admit it, you want Riley exactly because every season of his head coaching career his teams have consistently always had piss poor defenses.

You also want Riley because it would cost LSU at least $12 plus million dollars a year to hire that loon.

To directly answer your question…

Me personally, no I don’t really want Dabo. I don’t think he’s a great fit here. I think he’s had incredible fortune being in a decimated ACC during down years with a few years of high level QB recruits.

But he doesn’t strike me as an offensive or defensive guru or genius. I don’t think he would be a great fit here without top notch coordinators.

I want either an offensive genius (like Riley) or defensive genius (like Aranda). Yes, Dabo is clearly higher level tier than Aranda based on his career and resume and accomplishments. But I don’t think he’s actually the better choice moving forward.

Dabo has been beyond blessed to have one of the greatest DCs never leave.

It's quite remarkable someone that elite stays that long. Next year would make it 10 years. Top tier DCs don't stay at a program for 10 years. Like WTH.
