One year ago, how many of you had heard of Dave Aranda?

Don't lie. He's a good DC, but to act like he's a coach that is not replaceable is ridiculous. You NEVER hire a new coach and handcuff him to a staff member. Unless Alleva is dumb enough to hire coach O, then yea, handcuff him.

Last year it was DJ Durkin and Bob Shoop.

The year before it was Pat Narduzzi and Kirby Smart.

It's a fair point. Still love the dude and think he has been our best DC since Saban was running things.

Les Miles wanted him two years ago. You can thank him for that. But ask him to apologize for the offense.

I think a lot of people had heard of him. He was a name on our search list when we got Steele. And wisky is a pretty well-known football school. If you didn't see what he had going on there you just weren't paying attention.

I don't disagree. I watch most LSU games and it's obvious Aranda can coach a great D, but if you want a big hire - which most LSU fans want - You can't force them to keep certain coaches, you need to let them choose their own staff.

I knew who he was. But I keep up with other geniuses that are masters of their craft. We spot other like-minded individuals in different industries, before others do. We study each other and learn from each other.

Did he really? I had no idea

Give to Les though, he has picked good DCs though with Coach A, Pelini, and even Steele. Granted BDP was a disaster.

Aranda was discussed here long before being named DC.

Yea, Les deserves some cred for picking DCs. He's brought in some studs.

He just had no clue on the other side of the ball.

Les went with Steele because Aranda turned it down

I heard it differently. I heard Les wanted him but Aranda wasn't interested in his contract being tied to the HC, so they had to go with Steele. This year LSU decided to sign him with no attachments.
