I think Parcells took basically the same team to the Super Bowl the very next year... seems like he was underachieving to me.
you think its underachieving because you don't have the correct facts.
Carroll took over in NE after Parcells left for the Jets. He went 10-6, 9-7, 8-8. Not spectacular, but not bad.

With impending probation on the horizon, I don't see USC getting a top tier candidate. I could be wrong, but if you're Riley or Sarkasian, would you take the SC job right now? I wouldn't.
is USC with sanctions worse than being at Oregon State, though? Riley should take it.

Depends on what you're trying to do. If you wanna win 10 games a year and stay under the radar then OSU is pretty good in my opinion.

Will he return to college in a couple years like Saban
He is obviously not leaving college the same way Saban did (deny deny deny, say he is staying), nor woudl he handle it the same if he came back to CF. But yeah, success at Seattle is less than probable.

Why would he make this move? Money? He's got a boat load now. Ambition? He won't accomplish much in the NFL.
1- salary would about double and at the very lest two more million per year
2- Speculation.

Wow, still can't believe he left.

What I think is really wrong about this whole situation is how he was so quiet about it and gave no hints.

Report: Carroll, Seahawks agree on five-year deal
Not yet:
quote:
SEATTLE (AP)—Pete Carroll and the Seattle Seahawks do not have an agreement despite widespread reports but are closing in on a deal, according to a league official with direct knowledge of the coaching search.
The official told The Associated Press on Saturday the team is in “discussions” with the Southern California coach and do not plan on giving him the additional title of president. The official added the Seahawks will hire a general manager and coach separately.
“No, they do not have an agreement. They are not there,” the official told the AP, speaking on condition of anonymity because the Seahawks are not commenting.
AP - Jan 9, 4:45 pm EST
When asked if Carroll will become the eighth coach in Seattle’s 34-year history, the official said all signs point that way, just “not so fast” as has been reported.

The guy SUCKED at NE... Its not like he took a team from mediocrity and won 10 games.. NO he took over the AFC CHAMPIONS and won 10 games. Then he did nothing with them after that until he got fired. Ask any NE fan if they think he was a good NFL coach. The guy stunk. I have no idea why he would go back he has it made at USC. He will just be back coaching in college in 3-4 years.
