Obviously the stakes are alittle higher replacing petrino from replacing nutt. The guys two for two in my book and genius until proven retarded.

Jeff Long has grown, he's learned, and he's realized just what can be accomplished at the U. of A.
He now knows that Doe's Hoes are getting commits and to leave that catfish behind.

AD Long made a tough decision but it was the right one. This usually works out for the best in the long run.

Arkansas is way too good of a program to hire an unproven guy who's, what, 30? Not no, but hell no. Dowell needs at least 5 years of head coaching experience before he gets considered for a big job.
Posted on 8/11/12 at 11:03 pm to ocelot4ark
He said bring back Dowell to OC. However, I don't think he'd come - even if you made him HC in waiting, which doesn't make sense unless the HC you bring in is much older than Strong. Arkansas Head Coach is Dowell's dream job though...

Dowell is probably 10 years away at least. Who knows what will happen by then.

Ermagerd! So much sig quote material...so little space.

I have to admit that my faith in Long isn't enormous based on the reports we heard during our last coaching search.
I'm sure a lot of crap gets leaked to the media and to message boards, but Jim Grobe and Tommy Bowden weren't exactly exciting to me. Had we not gotten Petrino, I would have been happier getting Will Muschamp, but that's neither here nor there.
As for Anderson, I felt that Long pretty much had his decision made for him by the fans (I'm sure he has a decent pulse on what the fans want), it was just a matter of him ponying up the resources, for which I give him credit for.
Basically, he did get Bobby Petrino and Mike Anderson, for which he deserves credit, but the circumstances surrounding those hires leave something to be desired.

So which is it? Fans bash the media for never getting shite right, yet everyone believes Grobe and Bowden were legit candidates.
Remember when Matt Turner said Tyrone Nix was the leading DC candidate? Everyone called bullsht and it was, but people still believe Long wanted to hire Grobe or Bowden and Petrino somehow 'fell in his lap.'
Long hired Petrino, end of story. I don't know why some of our fans selectively choose which horseshite rumors to believe.

I did think the Tyrone Nix thing was bullshite, but Grobe actually agreed to the job (at least it seemed that way according to the national sports media since ESPN, CBS, etc. reported it. Perhaps my memory is broken) and then backed off later.
I don't know what to think about Bowden, mainly because it just kind of seemed like we were used in order to get a raise for Bowden from Clemson.
There are some things that get reported that are total crap, and other things that are true. It certainly seemed like the Grobe thing had more legs than the Tyrone Nix thing.

Perhaps that was the case (I have no insider knowledge or proof either way), but it doesn't seem to add up considering how it seemed to come from his side as well.
Obviously we'll have to wait and see, but it does suck to wait.
I don't mind the JLS temporary hire as long as it is temporary, but we will see how things roll.

Chris Petersen.
He's shown no inclination to leave from Boise. Guy is obviously not an idiot. He's seen the track record of the guys who left Boise and how they've fared elsewhere. Nutt...Hawkins...etc. If he falls flat on his face at a big name school, no one is going to really remember his tenure at Boise. I think Petersen is aware of that and doesn't want to take the risk.
And honestly I don't think it's necessarily about an ability to coach (Nutt being excluded), but rather about connections and re-establishing recruiting relationships etc.

Petersen is who I'm leaning towards too.
6 front runners are too many.
I think Briles is basically out due to Baylor's new commitment to facilities. I don't think they'd pull the trigger w/o a long term commitment from Briles.
Franklin is not the guy we want after further examination.
JLS is only going to be as good as his assistants, and I see the bulk of the staff moving on regardless at season end.
Charlie Strong might actually really hate the U of Arkansas, he's got no ties that I know of.
That leaves Fitzgerald as the most likely of that bunch. I fully expect the choice to be kept under wraps until 30 minutes before the presser.

AFAIK, Charlie Strong's biggest connection is that he's from Batesville and went to UCA?
