Fitzgerald is coaching at his alma mater and his self proclaimed dream job.

He said bring back Dowell to OC. However, I don't think he'd come - even if you made him HC in waiting, which doesn't make sense unless the HC you bring in is much older than Strong. Arkansas Head Coach is Dowell's dream job though...

Yeah Im in no way saying HC, but if you can hack it as QB coach in the NFL Im more than ok with being a first time OC in college. Personally I think we always need to have a young staff here to help overcome our recruiting disadvantages. Our D staff has gotten younger and it's already paying dividends with younger guys like Peoples who can relate with a recruit.

I still think it would be awesome to hire Mike Smith as our RB coach/recruiting coordinator if he ever is interested. Dudes young, well spoken, cool, and has ties to Fl/Gulf Coast region. He'd be like a much cooler version of Trooper

Weird...i was just thinking this the other day while watching him do a practice report on the news. Hate that he didn't get a shot at the NFL but i think he'd be a good recruiter and teacher for the RBs

Yeah, while he's a good coach, I'm not sure how that would work out for him if he jumped here. See Rich Rodriguez and WVU.

Chris Petersen and Art Briles aren't leaving for Arkansas.

because of the rich history of their current programs?

Skip Holtz
Jim Heacock
James Franklin
Steve Sarkisian

Holtz and heacock would be shitty hires.

Franklin is an interesting one. good so far and i think he will be great. However I wonder if he would leave vandy this soon. Don't want that job hopper title associated with your name afterall.

Sarkisian is still an unproven commodity. I think he would turn out ok but i'm still not sure he'd be able to compete with the best of the best in the SEC.

Garrick McGee
Gus Malzahn
JLS
Paul Rhoads

If Garrick was to come on i'd expect him to keep the current staff intact. That would be the only reason to hire him.

Gus is a bust hire but will eventually be hired. I just hope it isn't this time around.

I'm actually kind of buying into the butch Davis hire as being the best option available so far.

Stanford-Okie State is on ESPNU right now if you want to see the Greg Roman offense.

I'll admit I'm obsessed with the guy. I just watched the 49ers-Vikings preseason game and am now following it up with this.

I think Holtz would be a bad hire, I wouldn't be upset with Heacock though.

I wasn't trying to imply that realistic=good.

Most good coaches have jobs and have to be at least somewhat comfortable where they are at.

Unless Jeff wants to gamble on a coordinator, or an up and coming HC, (either of which would probably come out of left field) I just don't see that many great or big name hires that can be made.

I really don't see the Butch hire being made. A clean record seems like it is a must-have after what's happened.

officially? Chucky's always in play. He's a pipe dream and I'm not sure he'd be that effective as a coach. What he's doing right now is pretty cush. He's banked 20 years of coaching salaries and probably living nicely and has a pretty decent ESPN salary as well.

Every day the odds on Gruden get higher.

hogville is this way

Steve Cauldwell doesn't know how to coach special teams, JLS is the best ST coach in the nation.

JLS expects his coordinators to coordinate, and this is why he failed at Mich State, except for the whole his wife having cancer thing.

If you watch his meltdowns, he more pissed at his coordinators than his players.

Also, He's different as a coach on the field than in front of the media. Do you really think Les Miles walks around saying nonsense while coaching?

The JLS contract was the best route with the team Arkansas is fielding this year.

ETA: with the JLS hire

at first i was like

but then i was like

Have you heard of David Lee?

We're way too good of a program to rely on an unproven, never been an OC ANYWHERE guy to take over that part of the program.
