Coach Smith interview

tGrandpa is already putting his mark on the program. The annual golf tournament was in Bella Vista, it's usually at Paradise Valley or Pinnacle. Also he's not combative with the media and is engaging and positive while answering a lot of questions.

If he can keep charming folks, and bring in some stud recruits like it seems that they'll be getting some quality commits after the next summer camp this coming weekend. Smith might have a better shot at staying on long term.

Oh and fall camp starts on Aug. 2nd for Arkansas.

ETA: I also increased John L. Smith's odds to get the job in the OP to 13,000,000 : 1. Up from 130 Million to one.

Thanks for sharing that video.

I would love to see Johnson and/or Wade at PR.

He talked about Peters getting some playing time at LB; I think Marshall will be hard to beat out at that 3rd LB spot.

You should also check out RD's last few blog entries. Paul Haynes is doing work in S. Florida. Getting some heavy interest from DB's that keep citing his background in putting guys in the league.

This is why I want us to hire someone with NFL creds, and one that had a good NFL experience and can properly sell that aspect to recruits. It's all about getting to the league and cashing fat checks.

Nice... I don't follow recruiting very closely. But it's good to hear we have some chances with some big recruits.

Very true.

I'd also like to have a coach that openly does the Throat Slash sign to other coaches.

If LM was blown away by a cold shoulder handshake just wait til our new coach is running up and down the sidelines in Death Valley throat slashing the fans and the players when we're up 14 pts in the 4th qtr.

Butch Davis hoping to coach in college again

What I posted almost 2 weeks ago about Davis' people making it known that he wants the Arkansas job, ESPN now has a story out this morning how Davis wants to coach in college again.

This is pretty much a PR piece I imagine to get his name out there right before the SEC media days and the rest of the conferences media days begin. The media days kinda signal the point that football season is almost here. Fall camps will start in about 2-3 weeks, and Labor day weekend is the first slate of games. I'm ready!

Against better judgement I'm going to boost JLS's odds at getting the job a tad.

His appearances at the SEC Media Days was fun, a polar opposite personality wise of Petrino. The players love the guy, fans are going to enjoy interacting with coach, and Hunter Henry's announcement tomorrow (which I expect to be Stanford) just might be a commit to the Hogs could really help his standing with the boosters and his support from the fanbase and within the BAC.

I honestly wouldn't be against promoting Tavier to full time HC if we can't find anyone legit.

They're all interviewing this season, with everyone.

Hiring JLS longterm will sink this program. Eventually he won't have Petrino Jr. around to run the offense, then we're going to be his Michigan State teams all over again. He's a nice guy and the players love him, but he can't direct a winning team. I would rather go round 2 with Petrino than half of the options available right now.

I know it's an extremely long shot, but Petrino staying in Arky and keeping in touch with the players is giving me a glimmer of hope that J. Long might give him another shot on a very tight leash.

Other than the fact that his last name is Petrino, what makes you think Paul is the answer?

0% chance of this happening. If this was going to happen he would have just been suspended without pay for the offseason.

He mentioned that eventually JLS wouldn't have "Petrino Jr" around to run the offense.

I'm not sure I would want him back. The dude won on the field but the off the field shite always comes back on programs. If he won it all and got lazy imagine how bad shite would get.

He set offensive records while at Illinois.

Illinois has had some really really shitty offenses apparently because I wasn't impressed with his stay there until the school records were mentioned.

In other news the Butch Davis article means something is moving. How often do coaches do PR pieces about wanting a job?
