I saw a thread about that on HV. I most definitely wouldnt want Richt as head coach. Outside of Texas, Georgia is easily the most underachieving teams in the country. They are almost painful to watch at times.

Yup, so much wasted talent and opportunity. Hence why Richt's been teetering on the hot seat for years. It sure seems like there's been a hand on the burner control knob for a long time in Athens.

U. of A is a very unique place with unique challenges and assets. This is why as of right now Art Briles or James Franklin are my guys to beat.

Really? Well CMR kind of gets a bad rap but to be fair, if he doesn't make that 'last jump' at UGA, I don't think he could do it anywhere. Still plenty of time for him though.

extremely overrated for now. he was on the verge of getting fired at Minnesota before Vandy took him in.

His sole season as a HC, he led a senior laden team to a 6-7 record. They were close in most of the losses, but the wins weren't super impressive - beat all the non-cons, a really bad kentucky, and possibly the worst ole miss team ever. Props to him on his recriting, though.

give him more than a single season to actually prove what he can do. For now, I wouldn't even consider him if i was AD.

Not sure what your aversion to MG is but he has the best offensive strategy to take advantage of the Hawgs talent and the style of play you have.

I am assuming CBP has the pipeline stuffed with more Tyler Wilsons and receivers...

I would take Mike Gundy in a heartbeat. However I don't ever see him leaving his alma mater. Outside of a 5 year stint from '96-00, he has been at OSU as either a player or a coach since his freshman year of college in 1986.

I still don't get why Gary Patterson isn't a top choice - as in the #1 choice - for most Hog fans. It's a natural stair step on his career path. Things are a tad shaky at TCU at the moment. His recruiting base and ability to recruit that base is very impressive. Similar in style to what has gotten the Hogs back to a point of relevancy. I don't know... seems like there is a lot to like with him. And we need a strong, back-bone character type guy to get some of this egg off our face.

at this point, i think discussing patterson is equivalent to discussing peterson. he's not going anywhere. he's been at TCU for 11 seasons.

how so? he's been to 2 BCS bowls in the past 3 years. TCU is in the Big XII, so an offer to coach in a "real" conference lost its attraction.

wow, i didn't even make it this far. TCU was just involved in a huge drug scandal. Patterson is far from spotless.

This. Neither Patterson nor Petersen is going anywhere so there is no point in wasting time on them. Sure as an AD you still give them the obligatory phone call but as a fan I would focus your attention on other candidates.

Gary Patterson is quite comfortable @ TCU. Arkansas could not get him even if he was their #1 Candidate. TCU's alums could match dollar for dollar and all things equal, he stays @ TCU.

Peterson loves Boise and is not moving, period and there is nothing wrong with that.

Are there any left-field candidates that come to mind? I am not familiar enough with the NFL to know. I do know that I never expected Petrino when he came along.

Greg Roman's name is brought up a lot. but i mean, if it's a candidate out of left field, we probably don't know about/haven't considered him. that's sort of the definition.

Surprising to me to hear that GP is so entrenched at TCU and that they could match us dollar for dollar if we decided to open up the vault. I think GP is more or less spotless, but the latest drug scandal/tests would provide us a window to talk to him. I didn't mean shaky as in his program results on the field were, just the 65+ positive drug tests. 11 years doesnt sound like to me an unpenetrable wall, but you guys all disagree with me so i'll conceed. I guess i just like him and what's he about. Pro style offense. Scrappy over-achieving defense. Peterson, I agree - he won't leave. They love Boise and he has a recruiting niche second to none. I wouldn't think the same would hold true for GP.

I think Scott Linehan could be an out of the blue candidate IF he was interested in coming back to the college game. With the work he has done with the Detroit offense, he may be in line for another shot as an NFL HC.

He has ties to the current staff and was the OC for JLS at both Idaho and Louisville. It might ease some of the transition if we brought in a protégé of JLS and then he moves in to an administrative role through that clause in his contract.

Not sure he's the "character" you want right now.
