Did not read the thread, but Jim Tressell has suddenly appeared as legit candidate. That would be AWESOME...haha...and you guys do have something in common.

great suggestion but rumor is he is waiting on Mullen to leave Miss

He would end that wait instantly for the Arky job. Arkansas is a far better job than MSU. People think Hud wants MSU for some reason. He doesn't want MSU, he just wants more than La-La. He has ties to MSU and when Mullen does his annual "someone hire me" routine then Hud makes it known he'd be happy to replace him. I promise you if he was somehow offered MSU and Arky he would accept Arky.

quote:

1. Art Briles - Possible. Will get a call.
2. James Franklin - possible. depends on season
3. Chris Petersen - Not happening, captain.
4. Les Miles - not happening, captain.
5. Pat Fitzgerald - not happening
5. Pat Hill - Arky can do better
7. Mark Hudspeth - will be a candidate, but likely in the "option c or d" range
7. Charlie Strong - already contacted. wouldn't leave in spring. Might after this year though.
9. Skip Holtz - possible. he'd love to have it. seems like a "b or c" candidate to me. Arky can do better.
10. Brent Venables - you don't want
10. Paul Chryst - as and OC? absolutely. As an HC? not in the SEC. not yet.

My two cents on each. Of that list, I actually think only Briles, Strong, Hud, and Holtz are legit candidates. That said, if you want to put odds on them then I'd happily take the field against one of them getting the job. All of them are in the 20% or lower range IMO.

ETA: 20% or lower at present. obviously, that could change depending on the seasons they have.

He's going to be calling the plays for one of the best offenses in the NCAA this season. I bet he gets a head coaching offer or two after this season; maybe not from Arkansas, but I bet his stock will have risen quite a bit after this season.

Will this offense be better than last year's? The one that scored an average of 15.5 points when they played a team with a defense.

As long as Wilson and Davis stay healthy, I think it will be.

You mean it wasn't very effective against two of the best, if not the best, defenses in the country? There's not an offense in the NCAA last year that would have had much success against those D's. Just b/c LSU and Bama were able to contain Arkansas' offense doesn't mean it wasn't a great offense. It's going to be different this year when we have an effective running game; see LSU-Ark 2010.

LSU 2011 Significantly better than LSU 2010.

LSU 2012 better than LSU 2011.

Not much of a comparison. Even in your 2010 season, it took a couple of busted plays...and that LSU team wasn't close to the 2011 LSU team. No more JJ as well. Not looking good Jon. Hey, IF, and that is a big IF, but IF you can beat SC and A&M and Auburn...you can have a hell of a season at 10-2. I think you drop at least 1 of those 3 though, if not 2 of them.

keep telling yourself that.. Arky O dominated the shite out of LSU that season, and on that team yall had Mo and PP7. Let's see how awesome the secondary is without those guys or Brooks any longer. Lord knows Mathieu isn't much of a cover corner.

Just b/c Arkansas made LSU look stupid doesn't mean it was a "busted" play.

LSU is a 3 point favorite over Arkansas, and Arkansas is slight favorites over SC, A&M, and AU.

IF, IF, IF LSU can beat Arkansas, then yall will be good shape.

edit: Now please GTFO out of this thread. It's not about LSU.

The guy has hardly ever had to play a true cover corner role, and when he has, he's gotten burnt routinely. He's a great defensive playmaker, but cover corner, not so much.

never seen him get burnt. I've seen him only be beat more than a few times by Bama who managed to successfully exploit his height.

Then it must have never happened.

2011 Cotton Bowl he got jumped way over for a TD; against Tennessee last year he got beat quite a bit; 2010 against Arkansas he got burnt by Joe Adams. He's short, doesn't have elite speed, and spends as much time roaming around trying to make plays as he does in one on one coverage.

I've seen every game he has ever played in.

doesn't mean he was burned. It means he was out jumped.

specifics?

Da'rick had 3 catches for 63 yards. No other WR even had 1 catch.

be more specific

ok.... It's ok to admit an LSU player is more talented than any Arky DB you guys have.

I meant "burned" as in he never had a chance at making the play due to his poor pass coverage ability/physical limitations.

So you think he isn't short, does have elite speed, and is a great cover corner? L O L
