Ricks enters the portal abruptly, with no obvious motivation for the timing.

Corey Raymond would have as good a chance as anyone to survive a head coaching change. He’s widely regarded as the best in the business, at his alma mater, etc.

One option who CR likely wouldn’t want to stay on for is Aranda. It was heavily implied that Aranda brought in Busch to coach safeties because he didn’t feel Raymond could handle the entire backfield. Some quotes from the time paraphrased that they were professional but wouldn’t share a meal together and did not see eye to eye.

So did Raymond learn Aranda was on the very short list, and relay to Ricks that he’d likely be moving on?

LSU had apparently made preparations to be ready to hold an introductory press conference Monday, but also reported the timing wasn’t final and this was the earliest possible time to make an announcement. That doesn’t specifically point to Aranda but does fit with Baylor’s situation being in contention for their title game but needing help.

I don’t think we going with a defense minded coach. I think LSU wants to go strictly offensively minded coaches.

A good friend of mine work for LSU and when Aranda went to Baylor, he offered him more money to come with him. So he went. I texted him asking if Dave is coming and he told me that he would be really surprised if he left Baylor. Said he loves it there.
