Its been reported that if La. Tech doesn't pursue Gus, Gus will pursue La. Tech. He wants to be a HC and he can recruit Arkansas and Louisiana. Tech will up the salary for him to make him happy with his decision to leave AU

All tech has to do is pay the same salary they where paying Dooley and it is a 100k raise to Gus.

Leach could do some damage there. Would be a great hire
I agree, La Tech could do wonders with Leach...would be good for both parties involved...

Being from Ruston, I can tell you that the money is there if they want to go get a top flight coach...not sure that JD is willing to shell it out though.

Crowton

THIS!!!!

He's coached there before, hasn't he?

Could LSU ironically be saved (via the domino effect) by PETE CARROLL and USC?????

this would be awesome, but Tech cant pay him what LSU is paying him...face it were stuck for one more year...

I don't think you realize just how much money actually is in Ruston for the paying of a new coach. Dooley was not getting nearly what he could have gotten, because he wasn't proven. THEN, the man went 4-8 this year, with one win against lowly Nicholls. If the biggest boosters really want to, they will shell out major bucks on someone. We could very easily find salary money for Crowton, but there's no way he ever gets offered a job in Ruston again.

What was Crowton's record at Tech. I assume it was good considering his name pops up. Was his success at Tech due to getting a couple of good recruits or was it his program?

Crowton was 21-13 at Tech. We didn't have many "marquee" wins then, for one thing, BUT primarily he was riding the success of Rattay and Edwards. That duo was insane! Crowton then rolled out just before signing day and left us hanging. It was how he left us hanging that rubbed everyone the wrong way. However, Bicknell came in and had a decent season after that. Crowton doesn't stay anywhere for long, and always has a decent year, great year, then a crappy year, then leaves.

Did he recruit Rattay and Edwards? I do remember Tech was very exposive on offense. What kind of teams did Tech play back then since they didn't become part of the WAC til 2001.

How was attendance back when he was coach?

Rattay and Edwards were Joe Peace's recruits, I believe. Attendance has never been much different in Ruston actually, save for a few exceptions. We could've won the national championship and about 20k would have shown up.

Big Crowton wins: 1996 - none
1997 - Cal (in Shreve), @Bama, and we got robbed @Ark
1998 - none, plus the undefeated Tulane raped us

As far as attendance and facilities, Tech has never tried to increase these until just recently. We've had some good teams, but it wasn't marketed AT ALL. We sit on prime recruiting ground and have VERY rich alumni that have held onto their money until now. The difference in Ruston from 3 or 4 years ago to today is unbelievable. We damn near doubled our attendance this year from about 3 or 4 years ago, and had a POOR team this season.

Example: Our first nationally televised ESPN Ruston game was in 2002, and you could hear crickets in the stadium. This year, we had two there, and I dunno if you saw the Hawaii or Boise games, but that place was rockin'! Now that the old dumbass athletic administration is gone and new, aggressive people (heralded in when Dooley came along) are in charge, look out! We didn't even have an "official" LOGO for athletics until Dooley, I sh!t thee not!

Went to two games at Tech this year and was a little disappointed with attendance. But then again I'm use to attending LSU games and they weren't playing very good teams San Jose and New Mexico.

Oh crap, you went to the two worst games of the year. Lol, yeah attendance sucked. You should've been at the Hawaii and Boise games. When the team is sucking it up badly, obviously people aren't going to show up unless it's against a decent opponent, and NMSU and SJSU are nowhere near decent.

If Trooper is in the mix, BMW sales and recruiting class star ratings are about to skyrocket.

Dooley had La Tech running a pro style offense much like Saban at Bama. Crowton was the designer of the Leach style offense while at Tech.
