Why wouldn’t this have happened last season?

I don't know, maybe Bo was not comfortable with CO-DC role because it would have mitigated what his contract would be.

I know there are some who down vote everything they don't like to read if it disagrees with what they believe, but if Woody is imposing a Budget constraint on O, then there is no way he is going to hire a hot up an comer because the AD is not going to allow another Bo Pellini type contract.

So let me say I was on the Coach Freeman bandwagon but I just don't see Woody is going to allow O to give Him a contract like Bo got because if things go South next year, you are tied to two Bo Pellini type contracts and then you have to go out and pay another DC that type of contract.

So if you are O what can you do given the constraints you are likely facing budget wise and what will Woody in the AD agree to sign in terms of contract.

Muschamp, and Mason as well, are both getting paid by other SEC schools via buyout, so maybe hire Boom and Mason, make them CO-DC, Boom handles LB, Mason Safeties, Corey is CB-Recruiting coordinator and you bring Bo Davis home to handle DL.

Again, maybe not the splash hire with Marcus Freeman from Cinci but it might be a Defensive staff that can solidify things next year, All 4 have coached and recruited in the SEC footprint and it is a staff that The AD would sign off on given the budget constraints that he has imposed on the new hires.

And again, I was on the Marcus Freeman bandwagon last week. However, there is what you like and then there is the best possible situation given the circumstances. My reading the tea leaves, there are some budget constraints on what can be done.

And that is just my view.

Muschamp has become a retread of a retread. He will do ok at some lesser school, but not LSU...

Bump my own post:

Now reported by AL.com that Mason has been contacted. Not surprising. I think this hire is being made with a budget constraint being imposed. That is why if that is the case, go get Mason and Muschamp as CO-DC's, have Vandy and SCAR pay them, Mason handles Safeties, Boom the LB, bring in Bo Davis and you ride with that.

Read the tea leaves guys, Big money TAF boosters and Woody I don't think are going to give O the free hand to hire like he did last year when replaced Aranda with Bo and Brady with Linehan. LSU owes about 4 million plus to Bo and 1.6 Million to Linehan.

Pelini is not on the level of Muschamps.
We need someone who has experience and a level of success vs the SEC.
He runs multiple fronts and disguises the pressure. Think Devin White coming on delayed blitz. Uses a "Buck" linebacker all over the field for multiple schemes...he'll play as DE (stand or down), Spy, OLB to rush or drop into coverage. Would have been Jacoby Stevens this year and Webb, White, Penn, Ojulari, or one of the safeties, are waiting in the wings. No doubt he would have multiple ways to allow Maason to use his athleticism to dominate tackle to tackle.
Can't say I've ever been a big fan of his but he checks a lot of boxes for me. Defense and recruiting his only responsibilities--no HC distractions on his time.
With the players we pull, his experience, and the chip on his shoulder he must have toward a few of the other SEC programs, I like Muschamps to lead us back to a top five defense.
