More discussion on Mack Brown recruiting in Florida

quote:Texas currently has 1 player on roster from Florida and I current commit from Florida (tampa). Not exactly sure how many kids he saw yesterday but this is from the Austin paper
"I'm in Florida recruiting. If I had decided to step down I sure wouldn't be killing myself down here. I have not decided to step down."
quote:According to 247 Cook has shown no interest in UT. So apparently Brown is headed down a dead end or he is trying to steal a recruit from his former HCIW, Muschamp.
Brown visited Miami Central’s high school practice Tuesday and then spent the evening with running back recruit Dalvin Cook and his parents. Cook has been committed to Florida since April. But Brown was there in South Florida, talking up the Longhorns like always.
Sounds to me like Brown was doing some very soft recruiting to make it look like he was killing himself. Seems like he would have been better served to go to Tampa to convince his 1 commit that he was staying at UT.

Yeah I found that funny too.
He knows he is gone. He's keeping up appearances to
Make sure he gets full buyout potential.
The recruiting game has passed him by if he thinks he can walk in with a Texas polo on and turn a kid that easy.

The recruiting game is whats hurting Mack and Texas. He rarely brought in any out of state talent, and missed on a ton of in-state talent recently- Luck, RG3, Manziel, just to name a few.
Texas probably needs a great recruiter more than a great coach. Saban is both, Mack is neither, but plenty of guys would be an upgrade for UT.

"doing his job" = "killing himself" according to Mack. And everyone wonders why people wanted his arse gone for years.

I also have a theory about Texas high school players. I think they are closer to their ceiling in most cases compared to kids from other states. So there is less room for improvement in college. Texas high schools tend to have more paid assistants and better facilities than schools across the country.

Texas kids, more than anything, are soft.
They are spoiled with hype once they get an offer from Texas.
Things change once that settles in.

Brown saw the writing on the wall and went into hiding and house hunting on the UT nickel. Since Texas is now Alaska, it was a good time to go to Flo-rida and let the school pay for everything under the recruiting trip expense.
Well played Mack.
How many players over the years has Texas recruited from Florida that needed the HC down there to close the deal?
