You're right. And Michigan simply doesn't have that kind of money.

It's funny that everyone on here seems to think Les would even be offered the job.
Do we even know if an offer was made in 2007?
Let's put it this way:
Michigan would be insane not to at least ASK, make some inquiries, feelers if you will, to see if Les is open to the idea.
Miles may be the laughing stock of the SEC, but he's still got 10 wins this season in the best conference in the country, a 61-17 mark at LSU (better win pct than Lord Saban had at LSU) and he is a Michigan alum who tutored under Bo Schembechler.
There's a .00001% chance Michigan isn't going to make some back-channel inquiries into Miles.

Keep thinking that.
I'm sure Michigan and Miles can easily afford $1.25 million.
It's LSU that would have to pay through the nose to buy out Miles if they fire him. Miles pays relatively little to go to another school.

Also remaining unchanged is the $1.25 million penalty Miles must pay to LSU if he leaves for Michigan, a contract clause that college football fans became well acquainted with after Wolverines coach Lloyd Carr announced his retirement in November.

It's already Hoke, and Miles was never even considered for the UM job.
you have no idea what the hell you're talking about

A true "Michigan man", multiple 10+ win seasons in the toughest conference in America, a National Title, a strong recruiter, and yet Michigan has selected a guy with only a few winning seasons at non-AQ schools, who didn't even play at Michigan. What does THAT tell you?
well it obviously means he sucks, right?

It's spread out over a five year period. It's not paid lump sum, FYI.

Michigan could not be offering him because he turned them down flat in 2007. Why would he go to michigan? Where he woudl have to beat Ohio state every year, and if he didn't he woudl be fired. He would have a team with some glaring problems, and now he has to compete against Nebraska in the big 10(12)
How the hell can you say we peaked in 2007?
We haven't had a decent quarterback for three years, but we still have won 27 games that not half bad.

Miles would be insane if he left you idiot, our program is way higher up the ladder than Michigan right now. The big ten sucks and Michigan is even worse, I hate the rant sometimes.
Why would any coach leave a top tier program on the rise, for a top tier program on a steady decline? We've won 2 championships in last decade, Michigan's last title was in 1997
Not to mention we pay Miles top dollar, and more than Michigan would pay him...
But yeh, les would be a fool not to leave

I love how so many posters here know exactly what is going down in the Michigan athletic department. Its cool that you guys all know that Michigan didn't even so much as make contact with Miles agent or LSU.

I actually concur with what you're saying. Every single year there's talk of him getting fired. From a career standpoint, how long do you think he's going to be at LSU? How long could feasibly be at Michigan? How much money would they pay him? Miles would be foolish to not go to an interview at least.
