has known since before the season started that carr was stepping down at the end of the year. There is no way he just started the search last week. I believe it is a done deal with miles and it will be announced next week. I also believe it has been done in principle for a while now.

He had to know it was Carr's last season. He may have even force Carr into retirement. You will never know.
But he sure the hell didnt start this search last week.

Carr wanted to retire after last season. He was talked into staying on for one more. Personally, I think the deal with Miles - if there is a deal - was made around Bo Schembechler's funeral.

Carr seems to have a boner for Ferentz, or anyone not name Les Miles.

GooD Grief. There was no deal. There is real animosity toward Miles up in Michigan. People are not just whistling Dixie when they said Carr and staff had huge problems with MIles
Miles also did not help his position when he voted for Florida to go over Michigan to the NC game. Believe it or not some people held that against him. All the the Miles is dirty stuff from the Michigan Regime.
There was no deal I believe.

The official story is that Carr told Bill Martin after the Rose Bowl, that he wanted to retire. Both Bill Martin and Mary Sue Coleman (UofM's President) asked him to stay one more year (no formal explanation given).
Folks have speculated that Carr is ill (possibly Parkinsons), and that had he left after last year Hart, Henne, Long and Manningham would all have gone into the NFL draft, leaving a very empty cupboard and a very late hiring window for a new coach.
Not a scenario the AD and President needed when trying to sell a $280 million upgrade to the football facility to the Board of Regents. So Carr stayed one more year, but they knew at the start of year he was leaving after the season.
Now here is where you have to know Mich. Bill Martin is real estate guy, he was brought to Mich (he is very wealthy and takes no salary for the job) to fix the finances and overhaul the athletic campus, especially Michigan Stadium. Then he was to be done. Regrettably he has also been allowed to make some hires, the most troublesome was T. Amaker. That has convinced everyone that this hire will not be his call. He will present the new coach, but others are making the choice. Carr is a consultant to the search committee, but has no vote.
The committee is a mystery, but there are some former players and coaches involved. The president has a rep on the committee and I'm sure that the alumni base is represented as well.
They will make the list and identify who is to be interviewed. The Deboard and English inverviews are courtesies and likely are more to tell them why they are not the choice. Carr negotiate a two year deal for all his assistants before he agreed to stay the extra year, knowing that the new guy would clean house.
What folks seem to forget, and what Carr was careful to outline in his presser, is that Mich's most successful coaches were not "Michigan Men." Fielding Yost (KS), Fritz Crisler (OH-Wesleyn) and Bo (Miami of OH) were all just young, focused and very enthusiastic. I actually think that works against Les getting the job.
Brian Kelly (GVSU has already been contacted to get their opinion, as has CMU), Urban Meyer (Cinci boy who coached for OSU in the OSU-Mich game and grew up admiring Bo and Mich), Jeff Tedford, Bob Stoops and a half dozen more are likely on the list. Will any take the job? Coaches are funny (of course LSU has had some experience with that before), when you think they are settled and satisfied and couldn't want anything else, they move on. Go figure.
