why the hell would he take that job?

It's a head coaching job in Arkansas, and if he wins 9-10 games a year he can easily get a bigger job.

I'm trying to tell you guys this is being strongly considered. Prepare for the possibility of it happening. As of an hour ago he was leaning toward TAKING it.

Defies logic, but I think it happens. So bizzare.

Fwiw, I've heard stAte will pay Gus up to $850K a year. Which is significant for stAte.

5yr/$800K with a $2M buyout deal looks to be on the table.

Ya its crazy money. He makes 500k more than Kirby Smart.

The idea that the NCAA is making chiz split his staff up is ludicrous.

I'll admit I did not believe it at first. But we've confirmed it at both Auburn and through multiple sources very close to Malzahn

As long as Adam Alter or Matt Turner don't report it, I see this going down.

Good for him. No doubt he regrets not getting out while better jobs were his.

Oh and reopen atpb clearly a sinking ship. First guy ever to take a pay cut for what he wants

Gus is a solid OC, but this does excite me to see who AU ends up hiring at DC and now OC. I just hope we don't lose many recruits with all the coaching changes.

I don't think it's that crazy really. He can win there and that's all it takes to get a bigger job. Personally, I think going to somewhere like Memphis would be a worse decision.

He will be able to recruit well in state, he will not be competing with Arkansas for recruits, but stAte will not be losing recruits to UCA/UA-PB/Tech/etc.

He is a "God" to many high school coaches in the state, so he may be able to bring in a decent talent every now and again. Right now Petrino is going after SEC level talent while kids are being "left behind" that would have been taken by Nutt. The left over talent from in-state plus the proximity to Memphis/Mississippi/Missouri should yield decent SunBelt talent...

Is LSU that poor?

are you all that stupid?
suppose you paid $50k for a honda civic and i said that's retarded money for a civic. would you then ask me if i'm that poor?

So Auburn is at fault for higher coaching salaries?

jump to conclusions much? i guess my statement above is true.
no, auburn is not the solely at fault for rapidly escalating assistant coach salaries. but paying way over market value drives up prices for everyone else. it was a dumb move and i think most rational auburn fans know that he shouldn't have gotten an $800k raise for one great season, especially when a lot of the success was due to the talent he had to work rather than his genius oc skills
