Mallory confirms he is leaving LSU PDF

ATLANTA - LSU co-defensive coordinator Doug Mallory confirmed after the Chick-fil-A Bowl on Wednesday night that he is leaving LSU to become defensive coordinator at New Mexico.
"This is my last one," he said, referring to LSU's resounding 38-3 victory over No. 14-ranked Georgia Tech in the Georgia Dome.
Mallory was long-rumored to be the leading candidate for the job.
"I've only been there one day," Mallory said with a smile. He said he is scheduled to report to his new job on Saturday.
Mallory and co-coordinator Bradley Dale Peveto - who is leaving to be head coach at Northwestern State - came under heavy criticism this season as LSU's defense struggled. The Tigers were ranked last in the SEC in pass defense and gave up 31 or more points five times, though several of those scores were on interception returns by the opposition.
The Tigers may have saved their best for last under Mallory and Peveto. Tigers allowed 314 yards total offense but forced three turnovers and held the Yellow Jackets' vaunted triple-option offense out of the end zone for the only time this season.
"One advantage we had was time," Mallory said. "And we worked. We put in a lot of time and effort getting ready for the bowl game.
"For the most part, we were pretty sound in everything we did."
Mallory and Peveto will reportedly be succeeded by John Chavis, former defensive coordinator at Tennessee. An announcement on Chavis' hiring is expected in the next few days.

Does this mean the defensive staff took the first 12 games of a suck arse season off??? Seriously, what does Mallory mean by his comments??? Does it mean when an opponent is relatively one dimensional and LSU has superior talent he could figure out how to stop said opponent but not opponents that run diversified offenses???

Means the help they received from the consultant was indispensable. They didn't do the prep on their own.

Quit trying to spin it just to have something to bitch about. You act like a win should have been a given with the "one dimensional" and "superior talent" comments. GT isn't a bad team, they had a good season that included a win over Georgia. It's pretty obvious that the extra time we had to prepare for the triple option was beneficial. That's all it means. Several weeks are better than one week when preparing for an offensive scheme that is unlike any we've faced this year.

That had more to do with the fact that GT was a running/option team. Remember, the Mallveto defense did a pretty good job of shutting down Armanti Edwards in the first game too. If we would have played a team with a sophisticated passing game, it would have NO DOUBT been the same old "Burnt Toast" defense out there.....

I think to their credit, Mallory and Peveto have taken all the blame for the way the defense performed this year. They failed. And yes, it seems he was admitting they worked extra hard to defend Ga Tech. They had more time, and that would mean extra hard. They were lucky they had that type of offense to defend. What more do you want from them. Let's just wish them well in their futures.

Many many people here were saying the GT was going to "rape us", "skull frick us" etc because of our CO-Ds couldn't do anything right.
These guys worked their asses off (harder than they have been) to get the job done. They worked the players very hard and were successful.
Give them credit where credit is deserved. They stopped the vaunted offense! Be happy for the Tigers and be happy that this chapter of Tiger history is now over.
Good luck to Mallory and Peveto. May they excel in their new careers.
