LSU OC Position - Business Case Study

All organizations hire top management (AD, Head Football Coach) to make the tough decisions, and employment decisions should not be made based upon public opinion.
That said, the business of LSU football is highly visible and more closely followed than other large, Louisiana based, regional/national enterprises. For the vast majority of us, our job performance is not out there for the world to see, with our successes and failures publicly aired to be cheered or booed.
In the case of the LSU OC position, 13000+ stakeholders have taken a minute to express their opinion (poll on this site) and overwhelmingly (94%) oppose elevating SE to OC. This site may be a microcosm or a pure outlier, but I couldn't ignore such figures as a hiring executive.
Even if he is the best person for the job, those are tough numbers to overcome going in.

if you're a publicly owned and traded company (which you could say LSU is). you almost have to at least acknowledge public concerns.

An executive wouldn't ask the general public their opinion of the applicants applying for a job at his/her company.

This site is not a microcosm or an outlier. Look at Dandy's poll from yesterday. Even his "soccer mom" readers, who overwhelmingly supported the Orgeron hire, voted a 63% overall disapproval rating. 63% opposition to an Ensminger elevation by a heavy faction of O supporters.
This is a monumental PR disaster for LSU Athletics at this point in time, no matter what they do now. Their only chance to gain favor back is to crawfish on the Ensminger plan and hire someone from the outside. But even that won't accomplish a lot unless O turns his new OC completely loose and our offense has us competing for the SEC by 2020.

6% that voted for Ensminger are fans of other schools. They also liked the Orgeron hire.

Though just one of many factors, stakeholder sentiment is typically gauged (when possible) for high profile hires.
