why is it that if a player transfers to a different school, they have to sit out a year, yet when a coach cuts and runs, there is no consequence for skipping out on a contract?
the coaches are supposed to be leaders. why would a team follow someone who is just looking for the next best thing and will be gone at to the highest bidder? it is a disturbing trend in college sports and there should be a rule in place for coaches like there is for players. if a coach changes schools, he should be forced to sit a year as a penalty. it will bring much more stability to the school and the team.

Unfortunatly, loyalty meaning nothing anymore. The question becomes, is the school and fans going to as loyal to the coach as much as the coach is supposed to be loyal to them?
When the going gets tough, will the school and fans stay loyal to the coach? We see this everywhwere, not just in college sports; we see it in all levels and facets of life.

There is a consequence. In Miles case I think it is 1.5 million.
From a personal level I agree that it is somewhat distasteful for a coach who asks recruits to commit to 4 or 5 yeas won't do the same thing himself.
But from another perspective, it is a example of the free enterprise system working like it is supposed to work. You can see the interplay of supply and demand with the agents and the AD's jockying.
It's pretty cool to watch in a way. Sucks when it is your coach leaving though.

Yeah I am with ya guys on this. Been a Wolverine fan over 30 yrs now, and never had to go thru a HC hunt. This stuff is nail biting.

im not sure i agree that it is supposed to work this way. if you look at how many coaches have changed jobs in the past 5 or so years, it is substantially more than any other time in college history. this just points to coaches chasing the paycheck and not wanting to make a real commitment to a school anymore. the days of paterno and bowden type coaches that stay at one place for decades seem to be gone for good. it is a shame because that is what a lot of these schools' football programs were built on.
i think coaches should be held accountable and to a higher standard. they are not simply coaches after all, but leaders, mentors, teachers and representatives of the university.
