coaches moving up within the school hierarchy seem to do better than those that move either laterally or down

nothing is guaranteed anywhere obviously. Usually a good coach = a good coach, at the end of the day. I don't think going down from NFL to college is remotely similar to the reverse. And examples of horrendous NFL failures who also failed in college proves nothing either way on this.

english? do you understand it? where did i make this assertion?

let me try this again. just b/c you do well in the nfl doesnt mean you'll do well in college. shite, bill walsh tried to go back to stanford and that really didnt work out. then you can look at pete carroll who didnt do shite in the nfl and is thriving in college. the skill sets needed in the pros are different than in college. college is more about recruiting and actual coaching. pro football is about managing egos and gameplanning.
