Why do these coach’s have an obsession for going for it on 4th down. Take the points. I can understand 1 or maybe 2 yards but anything longer than that then you’re just gambling. That shite backfires more than it works.

There are a bunch of answers. But analytics in sport not just football has too often supplanted common sense.

Bring that same philosophy to the SEC and see how it works out for ya. Just ask Lane.

Kiffin at times allows his arrogance to dictate his actions. Napier I don’t know.

Kiffin will never ever get to an SEC championship or national championship going for it that many times. While he was at Alabama running the offense I would love to know if he was that crazy. Saban wouldn’t allow it because it doesn’t work. Sure it works sometimes but it’s not sustainable.

They won a national championship and went back again the next year. They had the 15th ranked offense by total yards in the country in his 2nd season.

And when it counted got him run out of the stadium twice. It's the same as refusing to hit to the opposite field against a shift. Stubborn refusal to take the what they're giving you.

In that away game at Auburn, Kiffin's back was against the wall because he had his three top receiver out for the game with injuries, his QB had two sprained ankles, and his best defensive player was on the bench injured. Hence, Kiffin was swinging for the fences because he knew that if Ole Miss loss that game, that they would be out of contention for the SEC West title.

However, in hindsight, Kiffin would have been better off kicking field goals. Nonetheless, at the time Kiffin made his decisions to go far it instead, he did not know what the outcome of the game would be.

Moreover, last Saturday's game certainly is not a reflection of his entire career and as the Kiffin haters are trying to insinuate it is. As Kiffin would not have won as many games as he has won with mediocre talent if that game against Auburn was indicative of Lane Kiffin's decision making.

You are going to get a lot of downvotes because there are a ton of Kiffin haters on this board, but nevertheless, it needs to be repeated.

Ole Miss and Kiffin are 25 out of 34 on 4th down conversions this year. 73.5% success rate.

As Kiffin is by far the best candidate for the head coaching job at LSU and it isn't even close.
