He use to train Pocic and Clapp at Traction. Wonder how he would recruit though. I could see him doing very well. He use to be the NFLPA rep president, which is impressive.

Mawae literally runs professional camps and clinics for college and pro line play.

Jesus Christ.

So do hundreds of other ex NFL players and fitness gurus. It’s a big business now, not exactly something that tells me he would be a good hire for the program

If he wants the LSU job as badly as he says he does, then he needs to get some coaching experience and college coaching experience first. Seems like he’s finally doing that. I always found it so dumb he would get so mad when we didn’t hire him as Oline coach while never taking any other Oline jobs to make him a candidate for the job.

Kelly has the say and if he says Davis goes then so be it. I see it from a fans prospective of Davis offering a lot to LSU if he is retained.
1. Sam Pittman hired him as his OL coach. I think this speaks volumes if a HC with expertise in OL hires the guy.
2. He never got a full year to recruit or develop the players. He’s been handicapped with options available.
3. Play calling has a lot to do with the tempo and demeanor the OL plays with. There is no if ands or butts that Peetz play calling hurt the OL.
I've been busting your chops, but all of this is true. I'll give you that. Even moreso than Peetz's play calling, he hamstrung our QB's ability to adjust protection. This is where Burrow made the 2019 OL much better than we expected. And where Max and Nuss "made" the 2021 OL worse than it could have been.

All that said, life happens, Brad. It's up to Kelly and who he can snag that might be better.

I love debates that are honest and factual. Honestly, I think he gets a job at UF, OU, or another big college if he falls thru.

I would hope he would reach out to coach Kelly.

Some of you need to chill out.

If Kevin Mawae asked for an interview how could that be bad?

So many staff positions at LSU for NEW people.

Mawae already has the coaching experience and damn sure has the pedigree to be a position coach.

All he really needs to do is ask for the job.

eta: Kelly should offer him the job. There isn’t a single person in football that will tell Mawae with a straight face that he isn’t qualified, especially at LSU. The (only) reason that Miles didn’t hire him is because Miles was a lineman himself and he was probably just intimidated and scared of Kevin Mawae calling him out or something.

At LSU? No he doesn’t. His playing career means nothing. Plenty of great players. Doesn’t mean squat for their ability to coach and recruit

He’s literally been begging for it for a decade while refusing to take any other Oline job until recently. LSU hasn’t been interested and they shouldn’t be until he’s shown he’s worth it on the field and in the recruiting game.

Again, we have multiple times.

Mawae is just, uh, a strange bird. Don't know how to say it better or even quantify it. I'm an LSU contemporary of his, fwiw.

Summary: momma ain't calling him home anytime soon.

I generally agree with what you said, but i gave you a downvote for lumping Daronte and Davis into that group. Both did a great job under difficult circumstances and I would be happy with either or both of them. The rest of what you said, I agree with.

Mawae is ALL LSU.

That's all you need to know.

No one would out recruit the big guy.

I've met most of the great LSU OL.

No one compares to Kevin Mawae.

Simply put, the guy is an excellent leader.
