quote:I suppose you say that because you want Miles to be fired. I honestly don't know whether that would be a good or a bad thing. But I am totally convinced that it is bad to send the message that his days are numbered or that he's gone if he doesn't win more than nine games. In my opinion, he needs to act. If Miles is his man, fine. If not, fire him and move on. This pseudo-reprimand only undermines his authority over the team and could hurt recruiting.
it's music to my ears

If the point is to tell the fans that the administration has high expectations for football, there is a way to do it far more generically than he did.
How? Basically one sentence from the letter can be perceived as critical of Miles. I think it was good of him to establish that the administration does in fact have high expectations of the football program.

Since I know for sure now that Riley is going to be true to what he has stated, I want Whittingham and his staff. Harbaugh imo ends up in the nfl sooner or later. Whittingham seems like a career college coach. He can develop his talent so imagine what he would do with our talent.

That statement doesn't do anything to ease the concerns of the fans, which is what he meant to do with the letter.

quote:First of all, I wrote it on the fly as an example of a generic statement. The point is to acknowledge that he hears the discontent and that he is staking his livelihood on the success of LSU's athletic programs. There may be a better way to word it, but the detailed stats and what not comes of as defensive and passively critical. Second, check out the posts on the Rant thread and tell me how successful he was at easing the concerns of the fans (at least the ones that needed easing). From my perspective, Alleva can only do two things to improve the program: (1) make informed personnel decisions, and (2) support the personnel he has. If he's not going to make a personnel change, then he better be supporting the ones he has. Just about anything else will likely undermine the program.

The fact that Alleva didn't fork out the money for Crowton's buyout shows you that he wants to get rid of Miles. Personally, I think it is wrong for an AD to do something like that and will eventually undermine the program.
And for those desperate to get rid of Les, I will just say that you are putting way to much faith in a guy from Duke that you just assume will break the bank to hire a good football coach.

It sounded to me like he was saying that he DOES support Miles and trusts that he will make the necessary adjustments to move forward and improve. Above that though, he made it a point to say that LSU expects to compete for championships.
I think that any coach understands that at a school like LSU this is the expectation, and if you fail to meet the expectation you are going to be out. Every head coaching position in the nation is like this. I'm not real sure what all the ruckus is about.

A "vote of confidence" is not needed for a program or coach having great success. That is what all the ruckus is about, the acknowledgment by upper management that the football program has got to improve; sooner, rather than later.

If Alleva doesn't realize that football is LSU's bread and butter he soon will. I doubt our fanbase will be happy with a national championship in lacrosse.

with 7 or 8 wins a year and getting beat by the stiffest of competition on the schedule and making it to an "oh by the way" bowl game.
That is, after experiencing 2000-2008.
At one time Boston Patriots (New England Patriots) fans were happy with the Patriots like the Saints fans are happy with the Saints, until they started dominating and now a one and done in the playoffs to them is absolutely unacceptable.

For a admin that has high expectation to win championships that is just plane lip service. If Iam not mistaken miles has only won one SEC Championships that includes the national championships. My only question to good old Joe is how can you have a vote of confidence for a coach that has only one SEC championships in five years. not very high expectations if you ask me. Les M=Jerry D

Duke hasn't won it.
