There's been much discussion over the past few weeks or so on if he's "elite" or not. He was a good college coach at Stanford, jumped to the pros and then realized his style is more of a fit to the college game. Michigan is paying him an absurd amount of money, but they were pretty desperate after a few down years. In my opinion, he's a good college coach, but until he wins a title, he's not elite.

Does top 3 make him elite?

That's just dumb.

He's led teams to the Rose Bowl and the Super Bowl, so I'll go ahead and call him elite.

He has been wildly successful at 3 different levels of coaching football.
SDSU (lower level college) Turned program around
Stanford (smart kid college) BCS
49ers (terrible front office) Super Bowl
He's the only non-title winning coach I'd call elite because of that.

He's great but I'm not calling him elite until he at least wins the conference, which may very well happen this year. To argue that Jimbo is not an elite coach is pretty absurd, which I only bring up bc it's been said around here a few times.

One of the best there is. If he came to LSU...Saban would piss his pants.
