Ties to the region. And I will not give you a reason, I will give you something stronger than speculation as ot his interest I will give you evidence.

He came to interview while his team was in the PLAYOFFS. God damn I don't know how much more interested a guy can be.

LSU will not hire Del Rio because it could conceivably be mid-January before he is even available to coach. It does not even remotely make sense for either party involved.

You're either quite young or have the memory of a goldfish.

Back when we hired Arnsparger, he was the DC for Miami. He coached out the year and didn't come to Baton Rouge well until mid-January. He then went on to bring us to the Sugar Bowl that same year for the first time in YEARS.

If it doesn't remotely make sense, how can you explain that it's already happened at LSU?

Nice. Bring up a situation that occurred 23 years ago. Zero members of the current administration were around then and this has zero relevance today.

who has zero college recruiting experience,

Goldfish.

Arnsparger had been out the college game since 1964 when he coached at Tulane. And he brought LSU to two Sugar Bowls in three years.

Weiss is a bit more recent.

You're saying it can't be done and I'm saying it was done. Has nothing to do with the current administration.

Most of our recruiting class have already committed. You're telling me that if an NFL coach calls these high school kids to tell them he's going to be their coach, that they'll jump ship?

Why am I wasting bandwidth on you?

Ok, we'll see Edge. I just think it is funny how much people tie on to this guy like he is the second coming of Vince Lombardi. He interviewed for a job, and either one of two things happened:

1 -- he was offered and didn't take it (which wouldn't help your case)

2 -- he was not offered (which wouldn't help your case)

here's what i think should happen:

when miles takes the michigan job on monday after the victory over tennessee, we should hire hal hunter for the bowl game (he does have the best winning percentage all time at lsu), win the bowl game, and then hire JDR the day after. everybody wins, and lsu stays in the media spotlight during the months of december/january.

Please don't post shite you don't know anything about.

He came to interview, he didn't interview.

Under JDR's old contract he had to notify the Jags if he talked to anyone else about a job. He told his agent(O'hagan i think?) to notify them and then he flew to BR. When he got here he realized his agent hadn't done so, and while he was in his limo making the call Skip stormed off and never talked to him. JDR then proceeded to fire his agent.

He came for the interview, but the interview never happened.

We have a better chance of getting Dolores Del Rio as coach.

Ok, guys. Sorry I didn't read the biography of Jack Del Rio and his desperate efforts to become the next LSU head football coach. I honestly do try to get out more.

Regardless, the fact that he was interested in interviewing in 2004 doesn't equal interest now, no matter how many daughters are at LSU.

Secondly, I never said a coach couldn't be hired in January. I just personally believe that it is a bad idea. You bring up Weis, who in his 3rd year of recruiting his guys, went 3-9 and had one of the worst offenses in the country, for a purported offensive genius. Great example!

If the man wants to coach at LSU, great, if not, great. I just find it humorous to assume that he will NOW because he did THEN. People change, you know.

No, please find where I said that. I never even remotely said that. I said it won't help recruiting to not have a coach hired until mid-January. Which is absolutely fact. If Del Rio were hired in the first 2 weeks of December and was recruiting in that time, it wouldn't hurt.

Why am I wasting bandwith on someone who can't even read?
