Why are coaches get blasted for interviewing or thinking about another or better job? Isn't this encouraged in any other industry??

Are there any other industries where the consumer invests more emotional stock than in sports?

true, but at the end of the day its a job.
also in a traditional industry the customers could easily be upset if their ideal employee leaves, especially in sales.

because it's the only profession in america where you are required to answer constant questioning from media/fans in a public manner regarding your job or potential new one.

Most of us just do not pay attention to the other shite. Do you honestly give a frick if the ceo of william and sonoma is going to pottery barn. NO.
Another side note... this happens in all sports.

Encouraged by the friends and family members of the person looking, but not by the company and boss of the employee. I know if my boss caught me searching for a job and interviewing with a competitor I would have to answer a bunch of questions. And it doesn't matter if it was a lateral move or not.

It is the way college professorships work. You basically only get a raise if you have another offer in hand. If you don't get the raise, you take the other offer.
