I've been watching Notre Dame's games on YouTube off and on today...

...since lunchtime when Kelly's name came up. I hadn't really watched them this year other than part of the Cincinnati game when they really didn't look like much, and part of the Wisconsin game when they were lights-out.

That offense is strong. It really is. If you think they're old-school you're not paying attention. They're multiple as can be, they spread teams out and run it, they use a couple of QB's because one guy runs like a jackrabbit (the other guy is Coan, who transferred from Wisconsin and is basically Max Johnson with more development), they have an Edwards-Helaire clone for a tailback who they use similarly.

It's a colossal improvement over what we've run the last two years.

And on defense, they come with pressure from start to finish. They seem like they get burned a good bit for it, though. I don't think their corners are all that hot. But they have a safety who's a Grant Delpit, and they rush the passer like crazy.

And when the game is on the line, these kids make plays. Even in the first two games against Florida State and Toledo when they had defensive breakdowns (FSU) and turnover problems (Toledo), they hung in and made plays to win.

Very well-coached team. Totally unlike us.
