everyone keeps hearing that the 3 main coaches are Del Rio, Spurrier and Saban. We always think we know who LSU is going to hire but never get it right. Nobody knew we were hiring Saban or Miles. My guess is it could end up being someone like a Chris Peterson at Boise State, Brian Kelly and Cincy, Tedford at Cal or even Mike Leach. My vote is for Chris Peterson!

You're right. It will be an up and comer from a smaller school. Or, it should be.

My thinking is that the big boys in the TAF and BoS have tasted the top of the mountain and they want to stay there. So, they're going after Saban, Spurrier, and JDR. I am thinking that NONE of them are going to work out, however, and we're going to have to go the other route. At that point, we will be taking a gamble on a less sexy hire that will end up being really good and we'll keep winning 10 games a season, but the fanbase will never really appreciate him because he wasn't one of the big 3. They will always compare him to his predecessor and the coaches that got away.

Oh wait. That's what we just went through. I see history repeating itself.

we'd be a fool not to take saban back...i think the man is headed back. long-term he's decided the pro's isn't the way to go. i can't imagine that he's that happy at alabama. we'll find out very soon.

i like the idea of him returning!

Butch Davis would be a great fit here, good recruiter, defensive minded, diciplined,he could keep this program going in the right direction.

I could be wrong, who knows. Someone on this board has said that many coach hirings and firings are a matter of timing. If this is true then the timing is not right for Saban. Even though he has lied in the past concering the job at Alabama and may be, as some have said on this board, unhappy at Bama he has only been there 1 year. To leave now would look very tacky. Spurrier may be interested but he is in his 60's. Sure he is a great coach but would he leave Carolina at this time in his life to come to LSU?
Even Del Rio, if Jacksonville makes the playoff would LSU wait even if he is interested in the job?
Also, we never know, Miles may tell Michigan to shove it and stay in Baton Rouge, who knows.
I still think LSU would be better off seeking a rising star in the coaching ranks who, like Tressell at Ohio St., who has proven to be great coach.
