The plan being to fulfill his earlier statement that it will be a hire everyone would approve of simply by having the entire fanbase so emotionally drained and exhausted they no longer care who it is, as long as it is over.
Pretty much the only way you can get such a contentious and divisive fanbase like ours to agree on anything.

Well, if he had actually hired someone this wouldn't be a problem. He didn't hire anyone.
