It doesn’t matter who the Bama DC is just like it doesn’t matter who the LSU OC is

It’s Brian Kelly’s offense. Stop living 2006-2021 when LSUs coaches were dumb as rocks and needed superstar coordinators on BOTH sides of the ball.

As I look at the staff assembled, it’s pretty awesome.

ST: Polian is damn strong
OC: see above about this being Kelly’s offense
OL: Davis is a top notch OL coach who knows the area and can recruit
QB: Sloan has strong relationships in North LA
WR: Hankton is highly respected, knows the SEC, and has tons of relationships in New Orleans
RB: Wilson is as good as it gets here
DC; House’s experiences in the SEC and NFL will serve him well
DL: Cain is well respected and was coveted by Riley
DBs: Cooks and Steeples; steeples will be a star; Cooks, I’m not sure about but Kelly has worked with him so he knows what he’s getting.

Staff is a good collection of Xs and Os and recruiters that have reach all over the state, region, and country.

OL: Davis will be a good recruiter for us in LA and is a good coach.

I’m not as down on the Cooks hire as some others here have been, but he’s the one guy who has a lot to prove to belong on this staff. Even Steeples is a high upside guy, but Cook’s resume as stands today doesn’t measure up to everyone else on this staff.

That said, I think the smart move is to just wait and see. Kelly has a great track record making hires, so that’s enough reason to hold judgement until we see how his position group looks.

Yeah, I was down on Cooks hire but the more I looked at it the more I came around. I figure if BK is making this hire he knows something since he's so familiar with him. I don't think he's an upgrade over Raymond but we could be wrong. This is the one hire you could argue doesn't make the most sense on the staff but it's a situation where you probably should trust BK considering how he has done his hiring process here looking at the potential on each hire. He gets the benefit here until proven otherwise. Steeples is a hire that may have HUGE payoff for LSU on both a coaching and recruiting standpoint. He has huge upside potential and this may be why BK made the Cooks hire. He knows what he's capable of doing so possibly to help the young Steeples. I don't believe either has official roles yet either so they may be hiring someone else as DB coach too. Who knows?

Kelly picked Cooks to be on his team.

Surrounding yourself with your people makes a good fit...

Bob Stoops hired Cooks to coach his dbs. Stoops knows defense.

I also like the fact that our DC has coached almost every position on defense at some point in his career including secondaries. So hopefully he will be able to provide some guidance to these younger guys as well.

Equating Kelly’s offensive coaching prowess to saban’s defensive coaching prowess is quite a stretch.

I’m just saying that he’s not going to hire some young hotshot and let him do whatever he wants. Kelly’s fingerprints will be on the offense.

Oh and Saban’s X’s and O’s are way overrated. He’s great because of his recruiting.
