Today news broke that Justin Wilcox and Peter Sirmon, the two stars of the UT coaching staff, are departing for Washington. Last year Justin Wilcox turned down the defensive coordinator job at Texas. This year he leaves for a vastly inferior job in Washington. This speaks volumes to the state of the UT program, coaches are bailing because they know Dooley is done. This means that Dooley has lost four coaches this offseason. It's not just players like DeAnthony Arnett who are attempting to flee Rocky Top, it's coaches too.

The reason why everyone wants out of Knoxville? Derek Dooley isn't liked by his coaches or players. Combine that with a failure to win and it's time to officially put down the Dool-Aid and cut the cord now. The reason? What's the point in hiring all these new coaches -- who are going to demand substantial salary buyouts to come here for a year -- when Dooley is a lameduck head coach?

Did they freaking hire Shannon or not?

One thread has Dooley stepping up and the other has him stepping out.

Wilcox had been hinting that he wanted to leave since this summer (he renegotiated his buyout from 300k to nothing) He and Sirmon are both from the west coast. They were just wanting to go home to where their families are. This was expected in our AD, Hart and Dooley have been looking for replacements for awhile now.

Explain? When ESPN ranked college football programs all-time, UT was ranked #12 and UW was ranked #17. Just because we've sucked for a few years due to Willingham (and a few other factors) doesn't mean that the program itself sucks. The numbers haven't come out yet, but I bet we also gave him a raise and approached the $1 million mark for his contract. He also gets to run the defense on his own and take over a defense with nowhere to go but up. The offense is in great shape, so he won't be under pressure to win games on his own.

Yeah, we wouldn't have been able to land them without them having ties to the area. Timing and location is everything unless you have unlimited cash, in regards to coaching hires.

At first I thought the OP was just being silly. Then I realized that he actually typed out almost word for word what everyone was saying about Auburn last week, changed out names and places with Tennessee names, and then suddenly believes it to be true.

Amazing. It's like trying to get Bama fans to understand that 9 > 6 and that special teams is actually part of the game of football.
