I recall that Les wanted to hire Aranda when Chief left, but Alleva wanted the coaching change clause in the contract and Aranda wouldn’t accept it. A year later Les was finally able to the clause removed and we got Aranda.

Hearing that now Alleva/BOS are/were blocking Freeze and little Briles as candidates. Are we looking at a similar situation where the head coach is unable to hire who he wants?

If we are to belive what's been posted thus far, it appears Orgeron wanted to hire Ensminger, Alleva said no, Orgeron came back with two names he knew would never be approved by the BOS and another that was a HC, then he returns again with Ensminger with the argument that he had exhausted all other options.

Those two happen to be Ranters favorites so there was not a better choice.

well, as has been typical of the rant over the years, what we don't or won't have is always what they want and think is better. Whether that be a coach or a backup player on the team. The rant's problem is once they latch on to a name or player, that is the ONLY option, and anything less is a failure or mistake, although their preference for an OC seems to change daily. Obviously no amount of bitching on here is going to make one iota of a difference in who is hired, but for civility's sake, this board wouldn't be in total meltdown mode and more productive conversations would be had if fan's would accept that 1. Freeze will not be considered by the AD; and 2. There are more coaches than Freeze that can and should be considered by the AD.

The rant is honestly behaving like our AD. With the AD: If it can't be Jimbo or Herman, we give up, let's just promote Ed, as those are the ONLY two alternative. With Orgeron: If it can't be Briles/Freeze or Kiffin, I give up, then let's just promote Ensminger. With our fans: If it can't be Briles or Freeze, we give up, we're fricked. It's seriously the most illogical line of thinking I have ever seen and the mob mentality has gotten out of hand.

DC's opinion about who he wants as his OC is more important than what we think.

The DC they just told that he’d get first swing at the next head coaching search?

Well that just makes too much sense.

Freeze and little Briles

Those two are walking scandals waiting to happen....in the case of Briles you have someone who at best would be served with subpoenas at practice .

or

Freeze, who everyone , rightly, supposed was stepping over lines when he was signing big time players out of Chicago, Atlanta and Lake City, Florida.....plying them with hookers (not that he's the first)

The rant will overlook things that are semi felonious or that will land you on the sanctions list....or they run with a fantasy based on an inane comment by a head coach that once worked here as an assistant over a decade before.

The rant didn't over look those things regarding Freeze when he was at ole Miss. They were some of the first to throw stones at him and his character, but now they want him on the coaching staff. Funny how opinions can change over the course of a few months.

Why don’t you educate them on Ensminger coaching up Jason Campbell at Auburn?
There seems to be a lot of things you’re ignorant about.

Correct, but they will overlook them now. It's one thing to "cheat" like Alabama does...they are good at it and have learned from their mistakes and now they don't have to and another thing to do what Freeze did....and everybody knew Freeze was cheating big time

I'll admit I misstated the different roles Ensminger had at Auburn. I knew he was there for 4 or 5 years and was in charge of QBs and the OC during his tenure. However, that doesn't invalidate what I said about Freeze. The consensus on Freeze, and this includes myself, was that he was scum and everyone relished in the fact that he was going down in flames. The only reason the rant wants him now is out of a feeling of pure desperation. My opinion regarding Freeze, however, hasn't changed. Call it whatever you want, but I'll just call it what it is, hypocrisy

Exactly, which is why P5 ADs don't want to hire him right now. I know people on here want to run with the narrative that it's because he called strippers. If that's all he had done, he'd still be coaching at Ole Miss. They stood behind him through a lot more than that. That was just the straw that broke the camel's back, and Freeze even said as much on his interview with Clay Travis last week. Obviously he didn't go into details of the depths of his inappropriate behavior, but he said when he met with Bjork and the chancellor at Ole Miss, they basically told him that with everything else he's was already facing, this added to it was just too much to keep defending. He also said he understood why he was fired at Ole Miss, why no one had offered him a job now, and also acknowledged that no team has contacted him about coaching next year. TIFWIW, but that's straight from the horse's mouth. he understands his name is toxic right ow and why. Why don't our fans?

Lol no, the rant wants him because of his ability to score touchdowns against Alabama’s defense. It would be a slam dunk hire as far as the results on the field are concerned. As long as you keep him on a short leash and remind him he won’t get another shot if he screws up off the field then it wouldn’t ever become an issue here.

Where do you think Freeze got it from? Who gave him his first job? Who made him recruiting coordinator at Ole Miss? Mother fricking Orgeron, who while at USC and Tennessee had come under fire for recruiting violations himself.
