Also like the whole offensive staff for texas. Greg Davis or Bobby Kennedy would be a good fit. I wouldn't look at major applewhite, he's moved around alot in the past few years. Sure he has is reasons, but we wont someone to contribute, develop and stay for a few years.

No chance Greg Davis leaves Texas for LSU... lateral move at best, not to mention he and Mack are tight.

I like the Houston guy too ... I just don't think Miles will hire a guy that hasn't had success at the highest level, and I can't really blame him. It's a risk that I don't believe is necessary for LSU to take given the pressure to win in 2010.
He coached at Texas Tech for a few years, lots of success. They've had very good seasons when he was there. Was he the reason??? Don't know. But he is a "x's and o's" guy. And very good at getting the most out of his players.
What i'm unsure of is if he would be another Gary Crowton. GC is a good coach but, i dont think he is used to having so much natural athletic ability available to him on offense. Thats why he schemes, and he schemes with personell groups and players. My opinion only.
He's not very good at developing or refining the talent. I can understand why GC does some of the stuff he does with the talent, but.......their is alot I dont understand about GC and his offensive philosophy.

In regards to Crowton, and this is merely my opinion ...
We don't need an offensive "innovator" at LSU. I don't believe we need a "creative" offensive coordinator. Schools like Cincinnati, Boise, Utah, Mississippi State, Baylor, Oklahoma St, etc need coaches like those to out-scheme their opponents.
Schools like LSU, USC, Texas, Oklahoma, etc, don't need to outscheme the other team. We have better players and should be able to beat you with those better players if we do the basics, and do them well.
I think Gary Crowton's offense is too complex, and thus is the reason he hasn't had the success at LSU that we all had hoped we would have.
Offense is not complex, and shouldn't be. Get 3.5 yards every play, and you will never be stopped. We need to get back to the basics, pick 20 plays and go with them. No need for all the creative formations, packages, and trickeration IMO.

Who is out their that has;
1. runs play action from the "I" and pistol.
2. runs a spread and a balanced attack
3. runs his offense based off his players strengths.
I DONT like the GUMPS, but they have a decent offense that maximizes the players abilities without getting all cute and scheme mismatches. They will put people in the NFL with that kind of offense.

I agree 110%. Exactly my thoughts. I mean its nice if you can, but......Its not needed all the time.
I figure if Miles does this right he can set himself up for a run in 2011. Maybe 2010. But,.... he cannot hire somebody that will bring in a different offense. It will have to be similar to what we have but easier for the players to grasp and play and build on. It's too complicated for the players. I think thats the main reason we didn't see more RS. Too complicated for a freshman other than run the ball.

Do not go after David Shaw. The guy's a huge scumbag. He'll eventually stab Les Miles in the back to get ahead ala Petrino with Tuberville.

whipple and kragthorpe are neck and neck for me, then i like cromwell from A&M.

I'm all ears, as I know nothing about Shaw, but can you elaborate?

Haven't seen his name come up much, but like yourself he caught my eye as well after doing some of this research and checking out his resume. He'd be a nice choice as well IMO.
Truthfully, though, I had never even heard of him until yesterday, lol.

Holgorson at Houston has big game experience, with two schools (Texas Tech) against big opponents, success in both places.
Still young but good experience, coming from a place with lower pay scale, wide open offenses, can he run the ball in the SEC?
take a look, what ya think?

I like him, but like I said earlier, I just feel Miles will stick to a BCS school hire ...
who knows, maybe I'm wrong, but I'm just going off of Miles' hiring history with Pelini, Crowton, and Chavis.

He was fired by the Ravens for leaking inside information to a local reporter. There were reports coming out every week about the players being unhappy with Billick and other private dealing in his attempt to undermine Billick. It caused a huge shitestorm around here and to this day, Ozzie Newsome hates the reporter (Mike Preston) with a passion. Miles actually reminds me of Billick quite a bit. Billick did a great job early on but his later teams became very undisciplined with penalties and often looked unprepared to play.

Cromwell has been talked about for the Kansas job, if it opens up.
If not I doubt he is going anywhere, not a big recruiter, doesn't really call the plays.

Any serious talks of that, or just random rumors?

not sure, most likely rumors, but I have seen it brought up multiple times.
He is from Smith Center, Kansas, and played QB at Kansas.

In your opinion, should he be eliminated from this list?
What would you say the odds of him being approached by LSU to take the OC spot here?

I would say he should be removed from that list.
I would be EXTREMELY surprised if he was considered for that position.
