In Iraq 2004/05. What were the Saban leaving LSU rumors before he bolted to NFL?

Just wondering. I didn't follow the ins and outs too closely. Were their substantial rumors floating around? Or were people dismissing any noise as pure nonsense? I just remember getting some internet time in shitty ole Iraq and learning he bolted for the Fins. Just wondering if anyone can shed any light or perspective on the vibe this time of year before he left for Miami.

Lots of noncommittal coach-speak from Saban saying he is the coach at LSU and is focused on the team. Like right now, and the times before at LSU when he was linked to jobs. Lots of speculation in the press that the Miami job was his if he wanted it. Skip felt pretty good he'd stay. Huizenga gave him a tour of his plane before leaving BR. According to some, that did it.

The key is how much the Cleveland owner kisses his arse -- Wayne Huizenga wooed Nicky and stroked his ego and got him to leave LSU when he really didn't want to. Mal Moore fellated Nicky and whispered sweet nothings in his ear. If the Cleveland owner gets down on his knees (literally) and of course throws a ton of money at him, he'll go.

I was new to TigerDroppings that year and I can remember as early as mid way through the season that year that someone posted that Miami was interested in Saban. Again , if my memory serves me correct, it at least came up midway during the 2004 season but nothing substantial. Of course, obviously heated up after the bowl was announced. Didnt really remember hearing too much after it was brought up until it did heat up at the end of the season. Jordy hULtberg's x-wife was our realtor at the time and she was and still is best friends with Terry Saban and was regularly at their house. She had told me back then that it was an extremely tough decision for Nick but that she didnt think we would be able to keep him.

Pretty much the exact same as right now. Saban saying he was focused on the next game, not interested in leaving, etc, etc. Dolphins wouldn't take no for an answer.

I know the palm Beach post had substantial write ups about it for at least a couple of weeks prior to it happening. My girlfriend (now my wife) is from South Florida and would call me when she saw it because she knew how close I was following the situation.

Great insight fellas. I figured it was pretty similar. I felt pretty confident he was staying at Bama but Im starting to get the feeling he may leave. Either way it will be interesting to see what goes down.

Except that he assured his players he was staying put. Fact.
