Yeah, Patrick Willis was the first name to come to mind but I kept it LSU. Willis is a beast! He's playing with a broken hand and still racked up the tackles. I think he was named defensive rookie of the week, could be wrong though.

I know everybody worries that he has no college expierience. But that is like saying a college coach could not coach a high school team.

I agree, I don't see why JDR wouldn't be able to recruit. It's not rocket science. The LSU name almost recruits itself nowadays. As long as he doesn't get lazy with it. The guys pretty charismatic.

His wife has ties here. He also played for the Saints for several years.

Not to mention, his daughter is currently a freshman at LSU.

I know Del Rio's adopted daughter graduated from LSU and one of his other daughters is currently at LSU. I know he's been with the Saints twice. I know his wife is from Louisiana... but how in the world do you leave a solid NFL franchise you help build in the middle of a playoff chase?

As far as his capability as a coach, sure he's a great NFL coach, but being a college coach is more than just x & o's, managing egos, and inspiring players. In college, you have to recruit. You're not selling the program to the player but his family, friends, and coaches. Then, you have to create a productive environment that the players are comfortable in yet at the same time keep them in line. For half the kids, the coaches become pseudo-father figures. You have to deal with not just fans, but school administration, athletic department administration, and boosters. You have to deal with NCAA rules and the conference office. You're not merely giving directions to players on what to do. These are 18 year old kids who you have to teach the fundamentals. It's a 365 day a year job. There's no offseason. And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Is JDR ready for that? He has no proven college coaching track record. In that regard, he's a bigger risk to us... than Saban was to the Dolphins. At least Saban had a track record in the NFL.

How hard is all that, really?

Apparently, very difficult considering how few college coaches succeed well enough to stick to a job.
